As families decide whether to opt-in to online learning for the 2021-2022 school year, we know families want to know how online learning will look different and how it will look the same.

The registration window for rising 6th-12th grade students is open March 22-April 2.

The registration window for our elementary online learning option anytime between April 19-May 2.

Cobb’s team of educators has been working tirelessly to provide those answers. The new learning choices are not only designed to ensure students are learning everywhere, but they also provide families with even more flexibility and options.

Registration is already open for the new Cobb Online Learning Academy, which will support all online learning for students in grades 6-12. Younger online learners in PreK-5 and students served in specialized programs in special education will participate in a geographic cluster model. Cobb Horizon High School will serve as an alternative school for online learners, and the Cobb Virtual Academy will continue to provide a part-time option for online learners.

Next school year, each virtual class will have a dedicated online instructor. Unlike the 2020-21 school year, online teachers will not be teaching face-to-face and virtual students simultaneously. The dedicated online Cobb educators will focus solely on the needs of their online students.

When school starts in August, online students will be taught five days a week, like their face-to-face peers.

What will a typical day look like for students enrolled in the Cobb Online Learning Academy? Families can access separate sample schedules for middle school and high school students. The balance between asynchronous (or independent) and synchronous (teacher-directed) learning will be tailored to support the specific needs of each school level.

What classes are available for online students? When will students be able to sign up for specific courses? Where will virtual teachers be located? How does the attendance process work? All those questions and many more are answered under Frequently Asked Questions for the Cobb Online Learning Academy.

The registration window for rising 6th-12th grade students is open March 22-April 2. To get started, families will log in to ParentVUE and look for the “Online Learning Opt-In” button located in the left column.

Families with younger students will be able to register their elementary students for our elementary online learning option anytime between April 19-May 2.

Middle and high school students interested in part-time online learning will be able to register through the Cobb Virtual Academy. High school students interested in alternative, full-time blended learning will be able to register through Cobb Horizon High School.
