Tapp Middle Schoolers explore media careers

October 14, 2026 — Tapp Middle School’s eighth graders recently stepped behind the scenes during Media Day, a hands-on experience introducing students to creative and technical careers in media and entertainment.

Students rotated through interactive stations led by media professionals, including a photographer and a lighting technician known as a gaffer. A virtual reality station also gave students the chance to explore additional careers, such as graphic design.

Along the way, students examined industry equipment, asked questions, and learned how different roles work together to bring a production to life. The experience helped students discover that media careers extend well beyond the camera, introducing opportunities they may not have considered.

“Media Day was about helping students see themselves in the industry,” said Neba Evans, Tapp Middle School Audio Video Technology & Film teacher. “When students can meet professionals, ask questions, and actually interact with the tools used in the field, those careers become more real and attainable.”

By connecting classroom learning with career exploration, Media Day reinforced Tapp Middle School’s commitment to authentic Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) experiences—and helped students imagine new possibilities for their futures.
