For two weeks in February, our students
and parents packed over 200 Home Depot boxes with donated relief
items which were loaded into a WalMart 40-ft. container and
driven to Miami. We are fortunate to have been kept in the
loop on tracking our donated items as they make their way to the
people of Haiti. In Miami, the boxes were loaded onto a Royal
Carribean Cruiseline ship and sailed to Haiti. The ship
was rerouted, however, to the Labadee port in Haiti to avoid
having to pay a port bribe of several thousand dollars.
The Americans who had flown to Haiti to facilitate the
distribution were able to secure local trucks to transport items
from the ship to a make-shift warehouse. From there, the
trucks were loaded and goods transported to the hill country.
We are receiving pictures almost daily from Haiti as this
process takes place. What a great opportunity we have had to
give back! We will post current pictures as they arrived.
Thank you to all who helped.
