TKES Student Survey

On December 17, 2014, Lindley Middle School and its 7th Grade Junior Falcons visited the Georgia Capitol where Governor Nathan Deal was named an Honorary Junior Falcon. Governor Deal’s jersey number is 82, commemorating him as the 82nd governor of the State of Georgia. Making the presentation is Lindley Middle School Principal Lisa Moore Williams and Head Coach Donald Hall. The coaching staff includes: Kelan Forehand, James Turner, Brett Smith, Rodney Washington, Sean Grimsley, Wayne Brewer, Jocyeline Brewer, and Sheikita Forehand. Along with the JR Falcon coaching staff are Cobb County School District athletic director, Steve Jones and Georgia Middle School Athletic Association director, J.L. Brooks. Principal Moore Williams and Mr. Jones are also members of the Georgia High School Athletic Association Executive Committee. Principal Moore Williams is vice president of the state organization.

The Sixth Grade Pebblebrook JR Falcons football team experienced a slow start in 2013. Coach Donald Hall took over the program as head coach and started building the program with players attending Lindley’s Sixth Grade Academy. With low numbers of six graders participating in the program, Coach Hall moved up fifth graders to the sixth grade roster. The team ended with a record of 4-4 for that season, unfortunately only one play away from making the playoffs.

This year the 7th grade team started work early, conditioning and preparing for the 2014 season. There were as many as forty athletes participating twice a week. The philosophy of the team, “To create better athletes by creating better men, and creating better men by being better examples”. With that philosophy at the forefront creating a winning team by creating better athletes was the goal and the results were phenomenal! The hard-work paid off as the team finished the season with only one game away from the State Championship. They had an 8 and 3 season and reached the Final Four in the playoffs. The statistics were staggering as they averaged five touchdowns per game and allowed their opponents to score less than 10 point per game. Four players scored 10 or more touchdowns, while eight players scored 5 or more touchdowns for the season. The team remained undefeated on the road and consisted of 16 All Stars. During the first two playoffs wins the team scored a total of 104 points! Lindley Middle School and Pebblebrook High School are very proud of the team and its accomplishments are excited about its upcoming 8th grade season.

Team Members include:1 Jaquavious L Jones, 2 William E Brewer, 3 Sincere M Street, 4 Ali N Fard, 5 Antonio Lewis, 10 Jaymori A Martin, 20 David M Roberts, 23 Nicholas R Fambro-Smith, 24 Marqus A Forehand, 25 Jourdan Smith, 30 Elisha N Starr-Thompson, 33 Marico D Smith II, 34 Azize J Fard, 50 Jibri J Grier, 52 Sean Grimsley, 60 Carlos I Flores, 63 Rashad Holmes, 65 Kattravion McCarty, 66 Rico Cadet, 67 Brad O Davis, 70/75 Ethan B Guildford, 78/77 Tyrone M Vincent, 81 Dejarvis M Holmes, 83 JaQuan Banks, 84 Dontavis Thomas

CCRPI

When the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) announced the College & Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) scores on December 8, district administrators noticed that specific information for calculating a portion of the score was not included in the released score for each middle school.  Therefore, the middle school CCRPI scores showed an inaccurate drop across the district.  The issue was immediately addressed on December 9 by the district with the GaDOE Accountability and Assessment Department and is currently being resolved.

Once the new data is incorporated into the recalculation, correct scores for CCSD middle schools will be released and published by the GaDOE at the end of January.  Based on internal preliminary calculations by district administrators, the results show that the CCRPI score at every middle school, as well as the overall district score, will increase.  The corrected scores will be issued by the State within the next 45 days.

Georgia Parent Survey

It is that time of year again for the Georgia Parent School Climate Survey for the 2014-2015 school year.

The survey is officially opened and will remain open through Friday, February 27, 2015. The Georgia Parent Survey contains 24 questions. Parents will be able to complete the survey using their personal computers, smartphones or iPads. We encourage all parents to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey because the data will be used to calculate the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Data results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online. The URL address for the Georgia Parent Survey is posted below:

Mr. Jeffrey Kaplan, a recent graduate of Kennesaw State University and a first-year social studies teacher at Lindley Middle School was selected to receive a $1,000 New Teacher Assistance Grant from Georgia Power.  Nominations were received from each of the public colleges in Georgia that have Education programs.  Candidates must be in the top 25 percent of their graduating class.  A selection committee made up of statewide education-related organizations, along with Georgia Power representatives, review the nominations and select the winners.

The grant in its 11th year, selected 42 recipients statewide.  The purpose of the grant is to encourage some of the state’s best and brightest new teachers by helping them purchase materials and supplies to add to their “classroom toolkits”.  Presenting the award on behalf of Georgia Power was Mr. Alan Martin.  Joining Mr. Kaplan are Cobb County Board Member Randy Scamihorn, Vice Chair and Board Member Brad Wheeler along with Lindley Principal Lisa Moore Williams
