Kaliga Satish Kumar-Winner of this year's Palmer Spelling Bee!
Congratulations to Kaliga Sathish Kumar, winner of this year's Palmer
Spelling Bee, and Ashleigh Killebrew, this year's runner-up!
Kaliga fended off 16 other competitors to win the Bee and advance to
the county competition.

Georgia Parent Survey
The Georgia Parent Survey is also modeled after the student survey
and contains 24 questions. Parents may complete the survey using
their personal computer, smartphones, or tablet. For parents who do
not have access to the Internet, please contact the school Media
Specialist. All parents are encouraged to participate in the Georgia
Parent Survey because the data will be used as part of the
calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are
anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department
of Education for analysis. Individual data results from the Georgia
Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be

Sara is one of 10 student finalists from across America in the annual premier competition which recognizes scientific thinking
and imagination in students grades 5-8 who dream up a solution to an everyday problem that ultimately could reshape the way we
live our lives. Sara's invention is nano-celulose pellets that help end stormwater pollution by absorbing water runoff as

Sara's prizes include $1,000, a trip to St. Paul, MN, for the Finals, and a summer mentorship with a 3M scientist.

Palmer Middle is proud to announce Mrs. Jacquie Mericka-Brand as its 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year! Mrs. Mericka-Brand is the
Science Department Lead and teaches 8th grade.
Mrs. Mandy Woodham is Palmer's 2016-2017 Classified Employee of the
Year. Mrs. Woodham works as the Media Center parapro.
Congratulations to both of these wonderful, hard-working ladies who
always put students first!

Palmer Middle School would like to thank Piedmont Church for their generous donation of an
iPad Air to teacher Tina McLaughlin and Palmer's Rise unit.
The Palmer Academic Team won first place among the top two Region 2 schools, and moves on to the Georgia State Semi-Finals on January
30th. Good luck!
Palmer Re-Validated as anAVID National Demonstration School
Palmer Middle School officially received re-validation as the only AVID National Demonstration School in the state of Georgia!! Our
AVID program met the standards for supporting the program effectiveness and student progress. The AVID program is designed to
increase students’ achievement, develop skills in writing for learning, achieve success in honor classes, and become an effective
learner in groups.
Congratulations to all who helped make this possible including: our AVID students, the AVID site team, the school administration, and
especially our AVID site team leader Mrs. Dora Brown and our AVID instructor Mr. Vijay Koilpillai!!
