Summer Reading 2019

Cobb County Schools is once again partnering with the Cobb County Public Library System for our Summer Reading Challenge! This year we challenge all students to read and log at least 1,500 minutes in Biblionasium.  Prizes will be awarded when we return to school based on number of minutes read. Students may also add to the fun by completing a reading BINGO sheet, printable from our Learning Commons link above.

For all the details and a link to the Biblionasium page, go to the Learning Commons link above and click on the Summer Reading tab. The Summer Reading Challenge begins May 13th and ends July 31st.

Last year we placed 6th in reading minutes out of 22 middle schools in Cobb County!  Let's place even higher this year!

Happy reading!

Content Acquisition Surveys for Parents

The next content acquisition process will include K-12 Health and PE, K-12 Visual Arts, K-12 General Music, Choral, Dance and Theatre, 6-12 Band and Orchestra, and 6-12 CTAE.

To ensure that teachers have ample time to review resources in Fall 2019, we are beginning the process now with the distribution of needs assessments to teachers, administrators, and parents. Having this information early means we can schedule the Phase 1 committee to meet over the summer to conduct a standards alignment of potential resources in preparation for Phase 2 in September 2019.

We want to thank you for your support in ensuring we have the best content and resources available to our students and teachers as we move our district forward.

Congratulations to our 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Sandra Robinson, 8th-Grade Social Studies!

Sandra's nominating teachers had this to say about her:

"I have never met someone who teaches and loves students with such authority and grace. She invests countless hours into making her content accessible to all students and is such an inspiring woman to work with."

"She empower students within her classroom, inspiring them to continue to push themselves outside of the class to become better citizens. She takes time to make all of her lessons meaningful and gets through to students from all races, ethnicities, and economic statuses."

"She strives to build trusting relationships with students in order to create a safe, positive, and productive learning environment. Mrs. Robinson values collaboration and willingly shares best practices."

We are so proud of you, Mrs. Robinson!

Palmer CCRPI Scores above District and State Average

The state of Georgia released 2017-2018 CCRPI scores for each school in the Cobb County School District on October 29th. We are proud to announce that Palmer achieved a score of 83.6 which surpassed both the district and state average. We also surpassed the district and state average in Progress which measures student academic growth. As we celebrate another year of significant success for our students, keep in mind that due to the changes in CCRPI component weights and indicators for the 5th straight year, a year-to-year comparison of CCRPI scores from 2017 to 2018 is impossible. Finally, we are proud to announce that our school achieved a Five-Star Climate Rating, the highest rating possible. Congratulations to our students and staff for their hard work!

More information about this year's score reports can be found at or To read Mrs. Jackson's letter to parents, please click here.
