Jazz Band

Sponsors: Mr. Glover and Ms. Jordan

Description: The Cooper Jazz Band is a co-curricular performing ensemble that meets after school.  Students in this group learn a variety of jazz and commercial music styles and put on performances that showcase their abilities. Students play a wide range of music ranging from jazz standards, R&B, to pop music. This ensemble is open to any student that plays an instrument or sings.

Meetings: Wednesday 4:30-6:00 PM


Spanish Club

Sponsor: Ms. Cimaglia

Description: The Spanish Club is for all students taking Spanish with the exception of 6th grade students.  The club focuses on the cultural aspects of the Spanish/Hispanic global community.   It also highlights authentic food dishes, music, crafts, and traditional celebrations that take place in Central, South America, and Spain.  Participants pay a $25.00 membership fee. 


Legends and Leaders

Sponsor: Mr. Gilder

Description: Legends and Leaders is a leadership club with aims to develop leadership skills and relationship building skills for the young men of Cooper. Our goal at L&L is to demonstrate the importance of personal growth, volunteerism, and leading other in a positive and productive way.

Meetings: Alternating Wednesdays during 3rd period


Drone Team

Sponsor: Daniel Harbert

Description:  The Drone Team is a small group of students who learn about drones.  The team flies, builds, repairs, and program drones.  The team participates in a yearly competition in the Spring.

Meetings:  Thursdays 4:30-5:30


Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl Team

Sponsor: Wilkins, LaQuiesia

Description:  The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl (HRRB) is a state-wide reading initiative and quiz bowl-style competition that tests students’ knowledge of Georgia Book Award books (10 books). The books are announced in the Spring prior to the competition year.  

Meetings:  To prepare for the January competition, Cooper's Team starts practicing no later than August and we hold practice once or twice per week. In practice, we have fun discussing the books, answering practice questions, memorizing facts about the books and practicing with the competition buzzers (think Jeopardy).
