Read Across America 2026

🎉 Durham Middle School Celebrates Read Across America
Read Across America was launched in 1998 by the National Education Association to inspire a love of reading in students. 📖 It was originally celebrated on March 2, the birthday of Dr. Seuss, with schools and libraries hosting fun, themed reading activities.
📚 Today, Read Across America has grown into a year-round initiative that encourages students to explore a wide variety of books representing different cultures, experiences, and perspectives.
🤝 Each year, through a special partnership between the Durham and Frey libraries, Durham Wildcats visit Frey Elementary to read with younger students. This meaningful tradition not only promotes literacy but also builds confidence, leadership, and a love of reading across grade levels.
✨ Take a look at some of the highlights from this engaging literacy event held on Thursday, March 5th.
