One phrase we know to be true at Hendricks Elementary is, "Kids who read become adults who lead!"   

All across America this week Read Across America is being celebrated. In Cobb County, we promote the joy of reading with Read Across Cobb week.  Here at Hendricks Elementary we make every day special with a focus on the enjoyment of reading with our Read Across Hendricks week!

Participate in our Beanstack Reading Challenge

Beyond daily dress up days, we will have a weeklong Beanstack Challenge.  Students should log into Beanstack and log at least 20 minutes of reading per day. Access Beanstack through Cobb Digital Library or Clever. Anyone needing help with access to Beanstack can contact Ms. Coker, the Hendricks School Librarian.

Students who complete the Beanstack Challenge will earn a cool, scented bookmark from the library!

Other Special Events

On Wednesday, classrooms will be able to tune in to online book readings from guest readers across the Cobb County School District. Many of the readers are librarians, administrators and department leaders who love to excite students about reading and are sure to have chosen great books that will inspire our students to find copies in the school library.

On Thursday, students will hear announcements at random times during the day telling them to Drop Everything and Read!  PBIS points will be awarded to students caught reading, so be sure to have a book handy at all times.

On Friday, the week ends with Career Day sponsored by our counselors. Career day coincidently fell on the calendar during Read Across Hendricks Day, so we are asking our students to Dress for success and read about careers they find interesting!

We are looking forward to a week full of reading!  Be sure to ask student, "What are you reading this week?" and start up a conversation about the love of books and reading!
