MABLETON ELEMENTARY

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Dear Parents:

Welcome students and parents to an educational, exciting, creative Physical Education program at Mableton Elementary.  We are happy to work with your child to develop him/her physically, mentally and socially.

In our Physical Education program, we want to expand and improve the fitness efforts of all children.  We hope that you will join your child in his/her efforts to achieve and maintain fitness. Remember fitness is a family affair!

ALL PARENTS AND STUDENTS MUST BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING:

PARTICIPATION:  All students in Cobb County Schools are required to participate in all scheduled physical education classes.  We emphasize the individual to accept the responsibility for his/her learning, behavior and direction.  All students are encouraged to:

1.    Be aware of safety measures        4.  Be respectful of others

2.    Listen & follow directions            5.  Use self-control

3.    Participate in all activities            6.  Dress appropriately

Student’s participation and conduct grade will be based upon the above.  Students will also be graded on a variety of assessments including: personal/general space, locomotor skills, & manipulative skills.

DRESS:  Attire for participation in P.E. activities must allow for freedom of movement and safety.  It is recommended that girls wear shorts underneath a dress.  For the safety of your child, do not allow him/her to wear crocks, boots, sandals, flip flops, clogs, or platforms tennis shoes.  Socks and sneakers should cover the whole foot.  Students wearing the baggy style jeans (pants or shorts) must wear a belt due to safety concerns.  Students should be prepared for outside cool weather participation.

EXCUSES:  An excuse in physical education from total participation of any duration or restrictive participation beyond five consecutive days returning to school must be confirmed by a physician’s statement specifying the state of illness/injury, nature and duration of restriction.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support!!  Parent volunteers are welcomed on field day.  We are planning a fun year and welcome your thoughts and/or concerns.

Sincerely,

Cindy Kraus, Ricky Staebler & Meghan Money
