New Principal Profile: Krystal Wattley, McEachern High School

One of Krystal Wattley’s best life decisions was becoming an educator 25 years ago. Now, she is bringing her passion for education to her new role as principal of McEachern High School. She’s a familiar face around the McEachern’s sprawling campus, having served as assistant principal before being named principal.
“It is certainly a blessing to be provided an opportunity to lead and serve the McEachern family. I am excited because I have an opportunity to continue ensuring McEachern students are valued, respected, and receive the high level of education they deserve,” McEachern’s new principal shared. “My advantage exists in the positive relationships that have been established over time. I have built trust with the McEachern community. I have exemplified my dedication to this community and plan to continue in that drive to excellence.”
Before finding her home in education, Principal Wattley worked in corporate America at a biotechnology company. She later blended her love of science with education. During her time on the Cobb Schools team, she has gained experience in instructional leadership, curriculum and instruction, and community engagement.
“I have grown as an educator over the years and have learned that dedication, commitment, and faith are the reasons for my continued success,” Principal Wattley added.

Question: What does “student success” mean to you?
Answer: “Student success is not just limited to academics, even though academics are important. Reaching student success not only means becoming college and career-ready, but also becoming innovative, confident leaders who think outside the box and utilize their critical thinking skills to take on initiatives that could lead to solving problems of the world.”
Question: Under your leadership, how will you build on the school’s successes?
Answer: “Building on McEachern’s successes will satisfy my vision of creating a learning community that has adopted a consistent collaborative culture of educators and stakeholders working together to make data-driven decisions so that all students’ academic needs are addressed and satisfied and so that all students feel valued, respected, and comfortable in their learning environment as they receive a high-level education. This will require the McEachern community to work together as a team, utilizing all supportive measures to ensure our students leave not only educated but also inspired.”
Question: What role do parents and the community play in supporting student success?
Answer: “I think it is important to establish effective partnerships with parents and the community. I welcome parent and community involvement. When students have the full support of the school, their parents, and the community, success typically follows. My expectation is for parents to actively engage themselves in school academics and events, keeping a strong, open communication with their child’s teachers. From my experience, involved and engaged parents yield involved and engaged students. The community must also do its part through partnerships that enhance and enrich the student’s educational experience.”
Question: What do you like most about being an educator, and what is your favorite memory as an educator?
Answer: “What I love most about being an educator is watching students grow and witnessing their reactions when they have reached an academic accomplishment. My favorite day/memory in education is graduation. It is very rewarding to see students who have worked hard for four years and received their diplomas go on to do greater things.”
Question: Outside of school, where might parents and students find you, and what’s something the school community may not know about you?
Answer: “If you look hard enough, you may see me taking a stroll in the McEachern, Powder Springs community, or you may see me spending time with family and my 3-year-old grandson. One interesting fact about me is that my favorite place to visit is the Atlanta Zoo.”
