CLIMB

CLIMB%20Definitions.pngOur core values are represented in one word: CLIMB. CLIMB represents our expectations for our learning community to exercise Commitment, show Leadership, demonstrate Integrity, be Mindful, and maintain Balance. These expectations are taught to our students at the beginning of the school year and reviewed throughout the year. By combining acknowledgment of positive student behavior through our core values, our faculty and staff strive to create and maintain a learning environment that maximizes instructional time, increases student achievement, and fosters a productive and safe learning environment.

CLIMB is our school's strategy to help all students succeed by implementing PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports). PBIS is an evidence-based framework to improve and integrate all of the data, systems, and practices affecting student outcomes every day.

Each Thursday and Friday, our students participate in an instructional period referred to as CLIMB. This means that on Thursdays and Fridays students have eight periods of classes (students have 7 periods of classes on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday). CLIMB is approximately 40 minutes. The CLIMB Period provides staff members the opportunity to support students in one of the following areas:

  1.  Advisement & Advocacy (dedicated CLIMB Instructional and Behavior Periods)
    • Advisement & Advocacy focuses on the tools students will need to do their best in their classes and promote to the next grade level through goal-setting and progress monitoring.
  2. CLIMB Instructional Period (every Thursday)
    • CLIMB Instructional Period provides students enrichment or remediation opportunities for the standards being taught based on summative assessments (like chapter tests).
  3. CLIMB Behavior Period (every Friday)
    • CLIMB Behavior Expectation provides students enrichment or remediation opportunities based on our core values and the behaviors that reflect within those values.

Based on our implementation of CLIMB, we celebrated a 48% decrease in office referrals in the 2022-2023 school year and observed some of our highest academic gains in over a decade.
