Registering Your Student to Borrow a County-Issued Laptop (Opting In):

All students are expected to have a Cobb County-issued laptop for digital learning at school. Parents of new Cobb County 7th through 12th graders and of all rising 6th graders, must either register to borrow a county-issued laptop or decline this resource. In other words, you may "opt-in" or "opt-out" of the Cobb County Student Laptop Program. Due to the recent passing of Georgia House Bill 340, students are no longer permitted to use their own personal devices at school unless specified in a medical or educational plan (IEP/504). This means that it is especially important for each student to be "opted-in" for a school laptop. You will do this in the ParentVue app which is accessible to parents 24 hours after registering a middle or high school student for a Cobb County school.

Why Opt-in:

According to Georgia House Bill 340

4 (b) Beginning no later than January 1, 2026, no public school student in kindergarten

through grade eight shall be permitted to access personal electronic devices during the

school day, except as otherwise provided in this Code section or required by law.

5 (d) A student whose Individualized Education Program (IEP), Section 504 Plan, or

medical plan explicitly mandates the use of a personal electronic device for medical or

educational purposes shall be permitted to access the device as necessary to fulfill the

requirements of the respective program or plan.
