The staff and students at Milford Elementary School believe in respect, relationships and a culture that nurtures all. We believe in providing experiences and opportunities that develop all students equally, that is why during Hispanic Heritage Month we wanted our students to learn as much as possible about Hispanic Heritage Month and why we celebrate it in the United States of America. Our students and staff enjoyed learning about and recognizing the contributions of Latin American intellectuals, scientists, entertainers, athletes, and politicians that have contributed to this country.

Our teachers went above and beyond decorating their classroom doors, displaying images of famous Hispanic American personalities and information about the different countries. One of our classes wrote an opinion piece about why it is important to celebrate. Other classes researched different personalities and how they have enriched and impacted the culture in our country. One of our 5th grades classes, went further and addressed immigration and how in the United States of America every family has a distinct heritage. Students researched their family’s Immigration Journey and created Family Trees. Some students realized their families moved to this land in the 1600s while others have been in the U. S. only for a few years.

On October 13th, we had an amazing closing celebration. Families proudly shared their favorite Latin American recipes for everyone to enjoy. Highlights of the event were the beautiful and colorful traditional outfits worn by some of our students and families, and of course, Latin music and karaoke!

We look forward to celebrating again next year!
