What is GHP? The Georgia Governor's Honors Program (GHP) is a four-week summer residential instructional program designed to provide intellectually gifted and artistically talented high school students challenging and enriching educational opportunities not usually available during the regular school year. Activities are designed to provide each participant with opportunities to acquire the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to become an independent, lifelong learner.

Who can participate? Rising juniors & seniors in Georgia's public, private, and home schools (current 10th & 11th graders).

Program Dates: 4 weeks from June 13th -July 10th. Students may not arrive late or leave early for any reason. Only students who can commit to the entire program should apply.

Location: Georgia Southern University

Who pays for the program? Funds for each student’s tuition, room, board, and instructional supplies are appropriated each year by the Georgia General Assembly as part of the state’s education budget. Students need only provide spending money and travel expenses.

Sophomores and Juniors: If you love learning and excel in an academic or CTAE area or are talented in fine arts and want to spend 4 weeks next summer in a college atmosphere with other like-minded students, please apply for GHP. Attention: Your nomination area interviewer will decide whether you continue with the GHP process based on your application and interview. You will be contacted by Ms. Monreal and Mr. Miner with further instructions if you have been selected to move forward.
*Note: You MUST complete the next steps by the assigned deadlines to continue with the GHP process. Students who do not complete ALL of the next steps will be considered ineligible for GHP.

Finalists: Osborne students are some of the most motivated, well-prepared, and gifted students in the state; therefore, we will have a good representation of OHS students who are chosen to attend GHP. However, the program seeks to involve students from every part of the state; our students are really competing against others with similar opportunities and skills from the North Metro area.

The biggest challenges for candidates at the state level are sharing their enthusiasm for the subject and communicating their desire to attend GHP to the interviewer in 20 minutes or less. Everyone who makes it to the State Interview is a terrific student with outstanding qualifications. Candidates must convince a stranger that they would be a greater asset to the program than the other high achievers vying for the same opportunity. The interview process is very subjective and therefore difficult to prepare. Candidates never know what will be asked of them.

Nomination Guidelines:

• Students are nominated or apply in a specific instructional area in which their abilities, aptitudes, and interest lie.

• GHP Progression: OHS self-nominations or teacher recommendations→ OHS Department Interview → Cobb County/District Interview → Application “Graded” on the State level → State Interview

• Students may interview at the department level for as many disciplines as desired.

• Submit transcripts of grades with the district application.

• Communicative Arts and Foreign Language nominees may be required to produce a writing sample at the district and statewide interviews. Science nominees will be given a set of facts and asked to create a research proposal. Fine Arts students will perform at the County level and send a video performance for the State application.

• Academic Applications are due 9/9/2026 by 11:59 pm.

•Applicants cannot be interviewed without submitting an application.

•Academic Department Interviews are by sign-up from September 14th- 18th.
