December 16, 2025 — Pitner Elementary School is kicking off 2026 with a veteran Cobb Schools educator as its new principal. Dr. Allison Gurski brings two decades of experience, a deep love for Cobb Schools, and a heartfelt commitment to students and families. With 24 years of experience in education — including time spent opening a new school, leading classrooms, and supporting teachers as an assistant principal — Dr. Gurski is stepping into the role with a strong sense of purpose and enthusiasm for the future.

The Cobb County graduate began her career as a third-grade teacher at Lewis Elementary School, where she quickly learned that strong relationships are at the heart of every thriving classroom. Five years later, she was part of the inaugural staff that opened Pickett’s Mill Elementary School in 2008.

Over the next 15 years, she served in multiple grade levels and as a School Leadership Intern, eventually moving into school administration. For the past eight and a half years, she has worked as an assistant principal, most recently at Kemp Elementary School

What does student success mean to you?

Answer: "To me, student success begins with strong relationships and a positive school culture that keeps students at the center of every decision. Success means meeting students where they are, academically and behaviorally, and helping them recognize the potential they possess to grow and achieve. I want each student to take pride in their progress and accomplishments, and for our school community to celebrate that growth together. I also want every staff member to recognize the powerful impact they have on students' lives and to work collaboratively to help every child succeed."

Under your leadership, how will you build on Pitner's success?

Answer: "The strong foundation of community and learning at Pitner is truly impressive and opens the door to exciting opportunities for the future. Under my leadership, I will build on Pitner's successes by honoring the traditions that make this school special while also supporting growth that aligns with a shared vision of building a strong foundation for a lifetime of learning. The Pitner community can expect a visible, engaged leader who is committed to cultivating a collaborative school culture. I will work closely with families and staff, and community partners to strengthen relationships, elevate student achievement, and ensure that every child feels safe, supported, and empowered to reach their fullest potential."

What role do you see parents and the community playing in supporting student success?

Answer: "Parents and the community play a vital role in supporting student success. Strong partnerships with families and community members help create a unified support system that extends beyond the classroom. When parents are engaged, informed, and working collaboratively with teachers and school leaders, students feel a stronger sense of belonging and confidence.

Community partners also enrich learning by providing resources, real-world connections, and opportunities that expand students' experiences. Together, supportive families, dedicated staff, and invested community members help reinforce a positive school culture where students feel valued, safe, and encouraged to grow. By working hand in hand, we can ensure that every child has the support they need to reach their full potential."

What do you like most about being an educator?

Answer: "As an educator, I believe that connecting with students and building strong relationships is essential to their success. Some of my favorite memories include receiving emails from former students, running into them in the community, and supporting those who have gone on to become educators themselves.

As an administrator, I most enjoy the opportunity to form meaningful relationships with students, staff, parents, and the broader community. You will see me in the carline, at the bus port, offering hallway high-fives and hugs, and fully present in classrooms. By being visible and engaged, I'm able to foster relationships and serve as a cheerleader for everyone, helping each person succeed in their own way."

Outside of school, where might parents and students find you?

Answer: "Outside of school, my husband and I stay very busy with our three boys, ages 11, 14, and 18. Their active sports schedule keeps us busy, so most evenings and weekends, you can find us at the baseball fields, tennis courts, or hiking around with our two dogs. We love to be outside as much as possible, and when we have time, we travel. Durango, Colorado, is our favorite place to ski, snowboard, hike, and raft."
