Library News

As we start the year, have conversations with your child about their "reader identity." This is comprised of 5 elements - 1) Attitude towards reading, 2) Self-efficacy (confidence), 3) Reading habits, 4) Book choice, 5) Process (the work a student does independently to solve words, read fluently, and comprehend). Developing a reader identity leads to independent reading for pleasure.

"No single literacy activity has a more positive effect on students' comprehension, vocabulary knowledge, spelling, writing ability, and overall academic achievement than free voluntary reading." - The Book Whisperer: Awakening the Inner Reader in Every Child - Donalyn Miller

Grades K-2 Challenge: Connect to Beanstack and log a book you've read together!

Grades 3rd-5th Challenge: Submit a Beanstack book review!

We are excited to celebrate our Beanstack Reader of the Week - Gowan Chenoweth! Gowan logged over 24,000 minutes of reading this summer!

Keep reading, Rockets!

Lending Library

Have you checked out our Lending Library? The purpose of the Lending Library is to provide students and families with easy access to books to enjoy at home. Students are encouraged to take a book, read it, and exchange it for a new book. Our goal is to help build a love of reading while making books accessible to everyone. Stop by our Lending Library, located along the walkway on the hill in front of the school.

PBIS

🌟 SOAR Spotlight: Only Show Kindness!
Our students are doing a great job earning PBIS points for SOARing throughout the building! This week, our schoolwide focus will be O – Only Show Kindness. We encourage students to show kindness through their words, actions, and choices each day.
🏠 PBIS Rewards App Access: A parent letter was sent via email on Thursday for parents to access the PBIS Rewards app and monitor their child's progress this school year. Please reach out to Mrs. Boone if you did not receive the letter nicola.boone@cobbk12.org.

Digital Learning Day-August 17

Digital Learning Days are designated by CCSD to provide teachers with valuable professional learning opportunities. On these days, students will learn from home through digital instruction and assigned learning activities.

Teachers will provide all necessary assignments and materials for students to complete on each Digital Learning Day.

Please mark your calendars for our four Digital Learning Days this school year:

  • August 17
  • October 12
  • December 1
  • March 1

We appreciate your support as these days allow our teachers to continue growing professionally while ensuring students stay engaged in meaningful learning from home.

Beacon Assessment: 1st–5th Grade

Vaughan students in grades 1-5 will be participating in the upcoming BEACON assessment window. These assessments help us monitor student learning and guide instruction so we can best meet each child's needs. We encourage families to review the attached information sheet for important dates and helpful testing information. As always, thank you for supporting your child by ensuring they get a good night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school on time during testing days.

📅 Fall Assessment Windows
