“Our Town” is a three-act play written by the American playwright Thornton Wilder in 1938. Described by Edward Albee as “the greatest American play ever written,” it presents the fictional American town of Grover’s Corners between 1901 and 1913 through the everyday lives of its citizens. The play uses metatheatrical devices, setting the action in the actual theater where it is being performed. The main character is the Stage Manager, who directly addresses the audience, introduces guest lecturers, fields questions, and even steps into various roles. The play is performed without elaborate sets or props, relying on mime. It premiered at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, New Jersey, on January 22, 1938, and went on to success on Broadway, receiving the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The story revolves around the relationships, challenges, and ordinary moments of the townspeople in Grover’s Corners, evoking a sense of nostalgia and celebrating the interconnectedness of human existence
