This week will be filled with lots of Holiday and end of semester festivities and activities.  You will be invited to participate in some of these activities and it's exciting to have you join us.  Thank you in advance for being flexible as we maneuver through possible traffic and parking changes.  As always, for the safety of our staff and students, we ask that you sign in and wear a badge at all times during your visit.

Please make note of those times should you come to eat lunch with your student those days.
Remember that lunch is enjoyed with your student on the stage.  For safety reasons, we can not permit classroom friends to join your student when you are here with them for lunch.

Congratulations to Mrs. Brooks and the following 4th Grade Target Stock Market Team for winning 1st place out of 84 Cobb County Elementary and Middle School teams in the fall competition. They will be recognized by the Georgia Council on Economic Education in a virtual ceremony next week and in the Spring at the Fox Theater in Atlanta for an in-person recognition.

Important Information to know:

As you may be aware, there has been an increase in flu (influenza) activity across the state and the US. We have been notified that several in our school community have been diagnosed with the flu over the past several days. Influenza is a viral respiratory illness that is characterized by fever, sore throat, cough, muscle aches, headaches and tiredness. Not all individuals will suffer from all the symptoms. The illness normally lasts between two to seven days. An individual who is experiencing these symptoms may need to be seen by his or her doctor.  If your student is experiencing these symptoms, please keep your student home.  This is for the protection of all our students as well as teachers and staff.  Students are able to return to school if they have been fever free for 24 hours, without the use of medication; free from vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours; released by a medical provider; and all other symptoms are gone.  Please encouraged your student(s) to practice frequent hand washing and keeping hands out of eyes, nose, and mouth.

November 8th is election day and as such it is a holiday for students and a professional learning day for teachers.

November 21-25 is the Thanksgiving break for staff and students.  As such, school will be closed.

We are proud of how hard our teachers plan to provide instruction and engaging activities for students.  We believe that instruction begins as soon as students enter their classrooms.  That means that if your student is here at 7:15, they would get about 35 min of additional time with their teachers or engaged in academic activities prior to the bell ringing at 7:50.  If you have the ability, avoid the carline delays and put your student on the bus. Some of our buses arrive prior to 7:15 and are all here and unloaded shortly thereafter.  If you must drive your student to school each day, you are required to remain in the carline and let your student off on the sidewalk. You are only permitted to get out of the line to park in an appropriate parking spot if you have a need to visit the front office or clinic.  We have procedures in place to ensure the safety of our students and staff and appreciate you for following those procedures.

Principal's Messagealt_textWe are so excited to have a new turf field added to the lower playground!  Our Bullard Foundation and PTSA completed this joint effort over the fall break and it is fantastic.  This project has been one in the making for many years and with your donations and participation in our many fundraisers over the years along with the collaboration of our Foundation and PTSA, we were finally able to make this happen.  Our students absolutely enjoy free play in that area and having new turf makes that play safer and less messy.  It truly takes our entire Bullard Community to ensure that we are the BEST in everyway.

Important Information to know:

We have made a change to the front door as an added safety precaution. With that, it is important for you to make sure you park and walk with your student if you arrive after the 7:50 bell.  This is needed, even if it is 7:51 as there are no adults still on duty and the front door will not be open.  Once you ring the bell and are granted access, you'll be able to sign your child in and they will be sent to class with a tardy pass.

Conference week is coming next month.  Conferences will be held face to face and are a chance for you to get to know how your student performed academically and behaviorally during the first quarter of the school year.  The week of Oct. 17-21 is designated as a county-wide conference week and as such we will have early release at 12:30 every day that week to allow for teachers to plan (Monday) and to hold 20 min conferences for every student in their class Tuesday-Friday.  Your classroom teachers will post the link with their schedules for conference week in CTLS Friday, September 23.  During conference week, PTSA will sponsor the Scholastic Book Fair in the media center.  When you come for your students conference, you will have a chance to browse and shop.  Stay tuned for the full hours of operation.

Principal's Message

School safety is our highest priority, which means that much of what we do every day revolves around ensuring that our campus is a safe place for students and staff.
In order to make sure everyone is ready and prepared, we conduct a variety of school-wide safety drills regularly. These drills include fire, tornado, and a number of different shelter-in-place scenarios. Due to safety protocols and based on recommendations from public safety personnel, with a focus on keeping your children as safe as possible, we do not announce drills in advance and do not send after-action reports.
We evaluate our procedures regularly with our local school officers to ensure the best safety procedures and practices are in place. Your continued support is appreciated, as we do all we can to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

Anytime you have a positive affirmation, question or concern, please contact your teachers as soon as possible as they are your first line of communication.  I want to encourage you to always keep the lines of communication open with your teachers as we work collaboratively to ensure that all of our students have the BEST year!

Principal's Message

This school year, we celebrate 20 years of being the BEST!  In the coming weeks, Mrs. Guthrie, our assistant principal, will begin short lessons and book readings on the morning news as she recognizes Bullard's BEST students and staff. Students and staff can be nominated by anyone as they are seen demonstrating Bullard's BEST behavior. Being the BEST means:

Be Respectful

Express Kindness

Show Leadership

Take Responsibility

Teachers use the language of BEST throughout classroom lessons and various activities.  Around the building you will find posters that describe what BEST means in the hallway, lunchroom, restrooms, etc.  We invite you to use the language of Bullard's BEST as you talk with your students about school each day.

All of these codes are in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all.  We are very fortunate to have Officer Norah with us during carline and throughout the school day.  Your efforts to create a safe environment for all students and staff are greatly appreciated.

We are so excited to have visitors in the building for lunch and will soon begin the Watch DOGS volunteering program.  As grade levels move into more curriculum and begin grade level activities, we will offer more opportunities for volunteers in the building.  To ensure the safety of our students, we ask that the enrolling adults, check ParentVUE to update the list of release to and student contact.  Our front office staff will check I.D.'s prior to a visitor being given access to a class for lunch. Make sure there is money on your student's lunch account as there is a charge this year for breakfast and lunch.  The easiest way to manage that account is
MyPaymentsPlus.com.  You can also use that site to make adjustments to dietary needs and to indicate which extras, such as, chips, drinks, ice cream, that your student is allowed to purchase.  All students go through the serving line at lunch, even if they have packed a lunch from home.  This allows them to put money on their accounts, purchase extra items to go with their lunch or to get a cup for water.  If you pack lunch, please be sure to include utensils.  Contact our cafeteria manager, Karen Nuccio, if you need assistance.

Home/School Connection Tips for Success

So far this year I'm sure you've heard all of us ask you to help us foster independence in our students by staying in the carline and letting students get out of the cars on their own.  We've also asked that you only walk them inside if they are tardy or you need to speak with someone in the front office or clinic.  Do you wonder why and how this impacts the success of your student?  As we jump right into our work with teaching and student learning, we want to get our students able to attend to whole and small group instruction as well as work independently and collaboratively with their peers.  Students being independent also builds their self-confidence which is another factor in school success.  As parents, you play the most important role in helping us get students there as you encourage and teach that independence.  We are so very excited to be able to have a more normal school year full of hands on and engaging lessons.  Together we will ensure that our students are successful.

Principal's Message

Thank you for helping us use two lanes when entering the carline.  Please note that those two lanes merge into one lane right before the playground and we appreciate you following the courtesy of turn taking when merging.  As we work to foster independence in our students, we ask that you stay in the carline and let your students out on the sidewalk in front of the school.  For the safety of our staff and students, only park to walk students in if you need to speak with someone in the clinic or front office.

Important Information to know:

Students walk to class without parents starting Monday, August 8, 2022.  At 7:50 am, the tardy bell rings and the Bullard staff members on car duty return to the building.  If you arrive after the 7:50 tardy bell, park and come inside the front office to sign your child into school.  They will be given a tardy pass and sent to class.  Following this procedure allows us to have adequate adult supervision and account for every student each day.

Enrolling parents are able to update student contact information in ParentVUE.  That system will be used by our staff to verify student check outs, access to students during lunch and communication with teachers.  Please check your account to make sure we have the most up to date and accurate information.

You are welcome to celebrate your student's birthday with classroom treats that will be passed out during lunch. Coordinate the celebrations with your classroom teacher.  As a convenience, our cafeteria offers treat options that can you can order using the following link
