Athlete of the Week Sept 2025

September 30, 2025—This week the spotlight shines on two standout athletes from Harrison High School and Kell High School. Aiden Watson plays football for the Hoyas, and Lyla Morici plays softball for the Longhorns. They are the Cobb Schools Athletes of the Week (AOW), an honor that recognizes male and female student-athletes performing at high levels in their sport, classroom, and school communities. The program is made possible by support from BSN Sports.

Aiden Watson, Football, Harrison

Although Aiden is still an underclassman, his play under center this year has been remarkable. In a recent game at Pebblebrook, the sophomore quarterback passed for five touchdowns to four different receivers in a 49-14 region victory. Aiden's awareness and vision behind the offensive line are one of the main reasons why the Hoyas are undefeated and on track to be in contention for the Region 3-6A championship. He is among the county's leaders in passing and manages the pressures of the game and the classroom equally well. In addition to playing football most of his life, Aiden also plays baseball for the Hoyas.

"Aiden brings a calm demeanor to his critical position as the leader of the offense," said his coach, Luqman Salam. "He manages and embraces this role with confidence and poise. He is an excellent student leader and teammate. He has been able to gain the respect of his peers and become one of our team leaders. Aiden is an outstanding young man with a very promising future on and off the field."

Lyla Morici, Softball, Kell

With seven strikeouts against Centennial, Lyla became Kell's new career strikeout leader with 490! She also claimed the school's win record during the same week. The junior pitcher will undoubtedly earn many more wins and strikeouts before her high school career is finished and leave an incredible legacy on the Longhorn mound. She is also a dependable hitter, who leads the team in the batter's box. She has been playing softball for more than a decade. Lyla sets the tone with her work ethic, pushes everyone to be better, and is someone her teammates can always count on, both on and off the field.

"Lyla has been remarkable this season in the circle and in the batter’s box. This has given us an edge on both sides of the ball," said Head Coach Kevin Foster. "She is a leader who constantly has a calm presence and steady focus, which helps keep her teammates grounded in every situation."

Coach Foster isn’t the only one praising Lyla’s impact — her leadership is also recognized beyond the field.

"She is an outstanding young woman both on and off the diamond!" said Kell Athletic Director Oneisha Young. "While her athletic talent is undeniable, she leads with humility and a genuine willingness to support her peers. Her positive and infectious energy shines in the weight room, where she consistently encourages and challenges others to give their very best."
