August 28, 2026 — Big plays on the football field and big hits on the softball diamond earned this week’s Cobb Schools Athlete of the Week honors.
Harrison’s Abby Harris has powered the Lady Hoyas with her bat, while McEachern’s Casey Barner turned in a standout performance in the Indians’ season-opening win. Their standout performances earned them this week’s Athlete of the Week honors. Their performances are more proof of why Cobb student-athletes are Built for Beyond.
The Cobb Schools Athlete of the Week (AOW) program recognizes top-performing male and female student-athletes each week thanks to the continued support of BSN Sports.
Abby Harris, Softball, Harrison
Recently, Abby went 5-for-9 (.556) with 10 RBIs, three home runs, three walks, and four runs scored. Her exceptional offense has helped lead the Lady Hoyas to an 8-1 record so far this season. This is Abby’s third year as a starter, and she has found her rhythm over the last two seasons. She is a vocal leader on the team and points the way forward with hard work and dedication to developing and maximizing her own skill set. She is committed to playing softball at the next level at Berry College next year.
"Abby is a tremendous teammate and leader in our program," said her coach Richard Dombrowsky. "Her peers have nothing but respect for her, and our younger players look up to her because every day they see a committed and intentional player who pours every ounce of energy and effort where her feet are. She does not need a crowd in the stands to give her best effort; it happens every day in practice and workouts. We are beyond proud of Abby and everything she has and will accomplish!"
Casey Barner, Football, McEachern
Picking up where he left off last season, Casey had an outstanding showing at McEachern's Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic game. Last season, he was voted GHS Football's Player of the Week in a big win over Walton at MBS, and this year, he was selected as AOW for his performance in a win over Kell.
In McEachern’s 40-10 victory at Kell High School, Casey contributed a 58-yard touchdown run, a tackle for loss, and a big interception to help get his team off to a great 1-0 start. Casey is a highly recruited junior and the top player at his position nationally. The season is just getting started for this Indian standout.
