Hello Hayes families! I’m Katrina Shirley, proud principal of Hayes Elementary School. From the moment I became principal at Hayes, it was clear that Hayes isn’t just a school, it’s a family! It’s a true privilege to join this amazing community and to work alongside such dedicated, passionate educators who care deeply about our students and support one another to help every child succeed.

With nearly 20 years of experience as a teacher and assistant principal, I’ve learned that the heart of a great school lies in creating a strong sense of belonging and a commitment to continuous growth. My commitment as a school leader is rooted in building a school environment where every child feels safe, seen, and supported—not just academically, but as individuals. I believe schools should feel like a second home, where students, families, and staff share a deep sense of connection and community. When students know they are valued and capable of amazing things, they thrive. As we grow together, we all succeed. I truly welcome your ideas, feedback, and partnership as we continue to build something special together at Hayes.

I am honored to serve as the Assistant Principal at Hayes Elementary School, a place I’ve proudly called home for the past 18 years. With 28 years of experience in education—all within the Cobb County School District—I’ve had the privilege of working alongside dedicated educators, supportive families, and incredible students.

My educational background has helped shape my leadership philosophy and instructional approach. I hold a Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction, a Master of Science in Educational Leadership, a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education, and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science.

At Hayes Elementary, I strive to help create a safe and engaging learning environment where every child can reach their full potential. It is an honor to be part of The Hayes Family, and I look forward to continuing our shared mission of student success.

My name is James Brantley, and I’m honored to serve as the Student Support Administrator at Hayes Elementary School. I’m beginning my 23rd year in education, having served as a special education teacher, behavior specialist, and administrator across multiple schools and districts. I hold a B.S. in Psychology and an M.Ed. in Special Education Behavior Disorders from Georgia Southern University, as well as an Ed.S. in Advanced Educational Studies from Augusta University. My philosophy is grounded in the belief that meaningful learning begins with meaningful relationships. Every child has the capacity to grow and thrive when adults take the time to connect, support, and guide with empathy and consistency.

As an educator, I am committed to fostering safe, inclusive environments where positive behavior is taught, modeled, and reinforced. I also believe that schools function best when we support the people who support the students—empowering teachers, staff, and families to collaborate, communicate, and lead with purpose. I believe these things to be essential to student growth.

My wife and I are proud parents of three adult children and grandparents to three energetic grandsons who keep us on our toes and recently claimed our first granddaughter! I love to travel and explore new places, always looking for fresh perspectives that I can bring back to the work I do with students and families.

I look forward to working with your family this year and supporting our students’ growth together. Please don’t hesitate to reach out—I’m here to help!
