KSE Volunteer of the Year Heather McCann

February 26, 2026 — In Cobb Schools, student success is never a solo act. It is a shared commitment powered by teachers, staff, families, and an extraordinary community of volunteers who show up with generous hearts and willing hands. Each year, we celebrate one outstanding individual whose service stands out among the many who make King Springs Elementary such a special place.

This year, King Springs Elementary is proud to recognize Mrs. Heather McCann as our 2026 Volunteer of the Year!

A Leader Who Makes a Lasting Difference

Heather serves as the KSE PTA Vice President of Fundraising Sponsorships, a role in which she has brought tremendous value and vision to our school. Through her enthusiasm and strong community connections, she has partnered with businesses, organizations, and local neighbors to bring essential resources directly to KSE. Her work supports student programs, enriches schoolwide events, and enhances learning opportunities for all Springers.

Districtwide Celebration of Service

Heather was honored at the 2026 Cobb Schools Volunteer of the Year Luncheon, hosted in partnership with the Cobb Schools Foundation. The event celebrated volunteers from elementary, middle, and high schools across the district—individuals who go above and beyond to support students every day.

During the luncheon, Foundation leaders emphasized the vital role volunteers play in family stabilization, learning interventions, and expanding opportunities for all 107,000 Cobb students.

Superintendent Chris Ragsdale thanked volunteers for giving something truly irreplaceable: their time.
“When over 8,000 seniors walk across our stages each year, every single team member has had an impact on their success,” he shared. “And that includes you.”

He reminded guests that while awards matter, it is the everyday moments that shape students’ lives—

  • a volunteer greeting students at arrival
  • a mentor encouraging a struggling reader
  • a booster parent organizing activities behind the scenes

Students notice these moments. They notice who cheers them on, who helps them prepare, and who makes school feel welcoming and safe. These small acts often become lasting memories.

The Heart of a Strong Community

As shared at the luncheon, the word volunteer never loses meaning. It represents generosity without expectation and commitment without compensation. The 2026 honorees, including Heather, reflect the thousands of volunteers throughout Cobb County who contribute in both big and small ways—whether leading a foundation board, organizing a book fair, repairing library books, translating for families, coaching a team, or simply showing up week after week.
