Information about the PSAT for 8th grade parents

Eighth grade students will be taking the PSAT on October 18th.  There will be no make up testing for students who miss the test date.

Why are we taking the PSAT?  The Preliminary SAT is more than good practice for the SAT, and the scores are more than just a number.   With your results you can see your progress, set a target, and get your AP potential.  Additionally, students who take the PSAT and meet other program entry requirements specified in the PSAT student guide will enter the National Merit Scholarship Program, an academic competition for recognition and scholarships conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).  Scores will also be a part of the application for students who plan on applying for a Magnet program.

More information about the PSAT test and how to do your best can be found on the College Board's website.
