Dr. Marilyn Thomas is returning to the place she called home starting in 2006 and served for eight years. The veteran educator is returning with more than two decades of experience as she takes on the role of principal at Russell Elementary School. Dr. Thomas brings a deep appreciation for the school’s culture, students, staff, and families. She is committed to building strong relationships, supporting student success, and continuing the positive growth already taking place within the Russell community. "I am excited to join the Russell community because it feels like coming home. I look forward to building on those relationships and working alongside the community to support student success and continue the growth that is already happening there," Dr. Thomas shared. |

| I am honored and proud to continue serving the Russell students, staff, families, and community as your Assistant Principal for the third year. As I begin my 28th year in education, 25 of which have been spent right here in Cobb County, I remain committed to supporting the success and well-being of every child and staff member in our school. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Athens State University in 1998. In 2005, I completed my master’s degree from Walden University, followed by my Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Berry College. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working in a variety of roles that have helped shape my perspective as a school leader. These include serving as a 3rd and 5th grade teacher, academic coach, Special Education teacher, School Leader Intern, and now Assistant Principal. Each of these experiences has deepened my dedication to student growth, equity, and excellence in education. On a personal note, I live in Dallas with my husband of 30 years. We are proud parents to two wonderful children, KatieBeth and Keegan. I am also “Yaya” to our two-year-old grandson, Walker, and we’re excited to welcome a baby girl to the family soon! I’m blessed to be a part of the Russell family and am looking forward to a fantastic year of learning, growth, and collaboration! | It is my privilege to serve our Russell Roadrunners in my second year as the Support and Services Administrator. At Russell, I leverage my previous 13 years of classroom experience as a paraprofessional, special education teacher, and special education lead teacher in this role to empower our scholars to reach their fullest potential. I was raised in Brooklyn, New York, and I earned my Bachelor’s degree in 2006 as a dual major in Political Science and African American Studies at Syracuse University. In 2016, I completed my Master of Arts in Teaching at Valdosta State University, and I recently completed my Tier 1 Educational Leadership with the University of West Georgia. In my free time, I value spending time with my family: my wife, Lorin, who also works with Cobb County School District, and our children, Isabella and Mason. We live, work, and go to school in Cobb County, and we are proud of the roots we have planted here. I look forward to continuing to serve our community this school year! |
