Dr. Marilyn Thomas, New Principal Russell Elementary School

May 22, 2026 — Dr. Marilyn Thomas is returning to the place she called home starting in 2006 and served for eight years. The veteran educator is returning with more than two decades of experience as she takes on the role of principal at Russell Elementary School

Dr. Thomas brings a deep appreciation for the school’s culture, students, staff, and families. She is committed to building strong relationships, supporting student success, and continuing the positive growth already taking place within the Russell community. 

"I am excited to join the Russell community because it feels like coming home. I look forward to building on those relationships and working alongside the community to support student success and continue the growth that is already happening there," Dr. Thomas shared.

Question: What does student success mean to you?

Answer: "Student success means helping every child grow, achieve, and gain the skills and confidence needed to thrive both inside and outside of the classroom. It is reflected in high expectations, meaningful learning opportunities, and a school culture that encourages every student to do their best."

Question: What can students, staff, and families expect under your leadership?

Answer: "Under my leadership, I will build on Russell’s successes by fostering strong relationships, supporting teachers, and maintaining high expectations for student achievement. I look forward to collaborating with staff, students, families, and the community to continue creating a positive school culture and ensuring every student has opportunities to succeed." 

Question: How do parents and the community support student success?

Answer: "Parents and the community play an important role in supporting student success. Strong partnerships between home, school, and the community help create a supportive environment where students can do their personal best. I believe open communication, collaboration, and shared commitment are essential in helping students reach their full potential."

Question: What do you enjoy most about being an educator? 

Answer: "What I like most about being an educator is the opportunity to make a positive difference in students’ lives each day. I especially value supporting and empowering staff, helping them grow professionally, and working alongside them to create strong instructional practices. I also enjoy building an environment where students, teachers, and staff all feel encouraged to learn, succeed, and reach their potential."

Question: What do you enjoy doing outside of school? 

Answer: "In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my daughter, reading, doing CrossFit, and being active outdoors. A fun fact about me is that I have a twin sister, and we still get mistaken for each other more often than you might think!"
