Former Wheeler Wildcat Ashton Lansdell now LA Queen in the WPBL

September 22, 2026 — Former Wheeler Wildcat Ashton Lansdell helped the Los Angeles Queens make history by winning the Women's Professional Baseball League championship in the league's inaugural season Tuesday night.

Lansdell, a 2019 Wheeler graduate, and the Queens defeated the San Francisco Firebells 2-0 in a winner-take-all game in the best-of-five championship series.

The league consists of four teams: the Queens, the Boston Hunters, the New York Heights, and the Firebells.

Lansdell hit an astonishing .477 with four home runs and 14 RBIs during the regular season, ranking in the top five in nearly every offensive statistical category.

Lansdell hit .393 with two home runs and drove in 11 runs in eight games during the postseason.

In the semifinals, the Queens won two of three from the Heights.

Prior to the season, she was named team captain of the Queens.

She was also selected seventh overall in the 2025 WPBL Draft.

Beginning in 2027, games are expected to be played in each team's respective home city, with contests taking place in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, and Boston, rather than all games being held at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois.
