Cobb Schools’ Athlete of the Week (AOW) program is a weekly recognition of male and female student-athletes performing at high levels in their sport, in the classroom, and in their school communities. The program is made possible by support from BSN Sports.

This week’s AOW winners are a state champ wrestler from Allatoona and a McDonald's All-American basketball player from McEachern.

Brooke French, Allatoona, Wrestling

Undefeated in the regular season, Brooke entered the postseason highly favored to win a state championship. She not only won the Girls 110-lb state title, she did it with a pin in the second period! She remained unbeaten through her senior season, closing out with a perfect 35-0 record. She is Allatoona's first girls wrestling state champ, and the sixth for the school overall.

"She was the senior leader for both our boys and girls," said Buc head coach Jacob Longacre. "She is a tremendous wrestler, but an even better person and a wonderful example of a what a student-athlete should look like!"

"Brooke makes everyone around her better by being the coach on the mat and drilling 110%. She has a 4.0 GPA and all of her teachers and classmates enjoy being around her! She leaves a tremendous mark on Allatoona and helped to put Cobb girls wrestling on the map. We are so excited to watch her compete at Life University and do great things beyond the sport of wrestling!" said her proud coach.

Airious Bailey, McEachern, Basketball

Anyone even remotely interested in high school basketball knows the name Ace Bailey. He is a McDonald’s All-American, a Naismith Award finalist, the Number 2 (arguably Number 1) ranked high school player in the country, and has scored 30+ points in the last 5 games (during the region tournament and postseason). He has led his Indians to their first 7A state finals game since 2019, which was the last time McEachern won the title. Ace is showing the watching world that he is every bit as good as the hype, and probably even better.

"Ace will go down as the BEST player to ever wear a McEachern uniform and that’s saying A LOT," said Indian Head Coach Tremayne Anchrum. "He is our leader, not just on the court, but also off the floor. He IS McEachern Basketball."

"He loves being a student at McEachern and everyone at McEachern knows him and he knows everyone. Ace is a big kid and his teammates and classmates love that he’s not arrogant; he is so humble and hard working. In my book, he’s not a 5-star. He’s a 50-star! Love this kid," Coach Anchrum said about his Athlete of the Week.

Great jobs, Brooke and Ace! Thanks for investing so much into these outstanding student-athletes Allatoona and McEachern. We know this is only the beginning for these two and we can't wait to see what they do next...!
