Being an Online Student

Academic Integrity

In an online class, your work shows your teacher what you know, understand, and can do. Academic Integrity means being honest about your learning and making sure the work you submit reflects your own thinking. Watch the video below. Simple Rule

Do your own work, give credit when needed, and ask for help when you are stuck instead of taking shortcuts.

What Academic Integrity Means
Overview

Be Honest About Your Learning

Academic integrity is not just about following rules. It is about being honest about your learning so your teacher can understand what you know and give you the right support.

When you complete your work honestly, you build real skills that will help you in future classes, college, work, and life.

What It Looks Like in Practice
Choices That Matter

Do This, Not That

Do

  • Submit work that reflects your own ideas and effort.
  • Use sources responsibly and give credit when needed.
  • Ask your teacher questions if you are confused.
  • Use notes or resources only when allowed.
  • Reach out for help before you fall behind.

Do Not

  • Copy and paste from websites or other sources.
  • Turn in work written by someone else.
  • Share quiz or test answers with another student.
  • Use AI or other tools to complete assignments for you.
  • Submit someone else’s work as your own.
Consequences
Academic Integrity Concerns

Consequences of Academic Integrity Violations

When you complete assignments in a way that reflects your own thinking, your teacher gets a clear picture of your learning and can give you the support you need to keep growing. The chart below explains how CVA helps students respond to academic integrity concerns. In most cases, the first steps are about learning from the situation, correcting the work, and making sure expectations are clear. If concerns continue, additional steps may be needed to protect a fair learning environment for everyone.

A Note About Bulk Submissions

Submitting several assignments at one time may trigger a teacher review. This does not automatically mean you did something wrong. Your teacher may ask to meet with you live to talk through your learning, your process, and your understanding of the work. This is not a “gotcha” moment. It is a chance to make sure your work reflects your own thinking and that you are ready to keep moving forward.

Your Choices Matter

In an online class, teachers cannot always see how you complete your work. Academic integrity depends on your honesty and your choices.

If academic integrity is violated, teachers may investigate the assignment, require the work to be redone, assign a zero, or refer the situation to program leadership. Just know that if a teacher reaches out to discuss your work, that doesn’t mean disaster. It simply means that your teacher wants to give you a chance to demonstrate your learning.

Academic Integrity Commitment

As a CVA student, I understand that academic integrity means:

  • I will submit my own work.
  • I will be honest about my learning.
  • I will give credit when I use outside sources.
  • I will ask for help instead of copying or taking shortcuts.
  • I will follow my teacher’s directions for assignments, quizzes, and tests.

Doing your own work is part of being a successful online student.
