On Friday, September 11, Lassiter High School honored the 25th anniversary of the events of the September 11, 2001.

The day began with members of Lassiter’s JROTC program raising the American flag and lowering it to half-staff in remembrance of the victims. At 8:46 a.m.,the time the first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center, the entire Lassiter student body paused for a moment of silence, providing students and staff an opportunity to reflect on the significance of the day.

Lassiter students also took part in a special community remembrance with the Kiwanis Club of Marietta. Students helped carry 2,977 American flags along a mile-long stretch before placing them at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. Each flag represents one of the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

Together, the thousands of flags create a powerful visual tribute and serve as a reminder of the individuals, families, first responders, and communities impacted by the tragedy. The Field of Flags will remain on display at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park through September 19.

Lassiter’s remembrance will continue Friday evening as the Trojans host Kell High School for the Red, White and Blue Patriot Rumble. Organized by Lassiter FBLA, the event will provide another opportunity for the Lassiter community to come together in recognition of September 11 while also honoring those who continue to serve our country and communities.

As part of the event, FBLA is supporting Operation Gratitude with a goal of collecting 2,250 handwritten letters for members of the military and first responders. The project gives Lassiter students and community members an opportunity to turn remembrance into an act of gratitude by sharing messages of appreciation with those who serve.
