Future in the Making: Mabry Students Showcase Innovation

January 16, 2026 — Students across Cobb are getting the chance to think outside the box and come up with inventions to showcase to classmates, parents, and teachers.
Mabry Middle School recently hosted its annual InVenture Night, where 70 teams of 6th and 7th-grade students showcased their inventions in hopes of advancing to a K-12 competition through Georgia Tech.
"We put four months of hard work in it and our product is important because it lowers the GDP and decreases malnutrition in the world," said Aashi, a Mabry student who helped create a product called "Mold Meter".
"They do patent research and market research, including surveys and interviews with experts," said Dr. Ingle Larkin, who helps oversee the event at Mabry.
Cobb Schools Board member David Chastain attended the event, along with dozens of Cobb parents, teachers, and staff, to take a closer look at the inventions that students have created.
"It's not only cool, but also amazing to see the ideas these 6th and 7th graders come up with," said Chastain, who serves as Board of Education Vice-Chair.

Out of the 70 student teams, Mabry aims to advance at least four to the next round, where they will compete against K-12 students from across the state to determine who has the best invention. After judging statewide results, a few select groups will showcase their inventions on the national stage, as has happened before with multiple Mabry students.
