Attendance Procedures
Late check-ins:
All students entering campus after 8:20 a.m. must check in at the Attendance Office (PPO) and receive a pass. Note--this includes students who have checked out earlier in the day and are returning to school.
- Students have three days to bring in a note to excuse their tardiness. Check the Student Agenda for a list of the state-defined criteria for excused absences and tardies.
- Be aware that tardies to any class are cumulativeacrossthe semester and can result in administrative consequences when excessive (including loss of parking privileges).
Dismissals
Students checking out early MUST have a parental note and a dismissal from the Attendance Office before they leave campus AND check out at the Attendance Office.
- Parents can send a handwritten note or emailwaltonattendanceoffice@cobbk12.orgbefore first period begins at 8:20 AM(do not send through CTLS and do not email the attendance office staff directly — they will not be processed).
- Dismissal notes must be receivedBEFORE first period begins at 8:20and include the following information:
- Date of absence/dismissal/ tardy
- First and last name
- Grade level
- Student number (lunch ID)
- Reason
- Dismissal requests emailed AFTER 8:20on the day of dismissalrequestWILL NOTbe processed. You will need tocome into the building to check out your student or call the Attendance Office to arrange dismissal.
Please note, out of respect for teachers and students in class, we do not interrupt instructional time for student dismissals. Please plan check-out and pick-up times between classes.
- Once processed, the Attendance Office will email the approved dismissal to the student’s schoolemailand copy the enrolling adult. Note - students should never leave campus without an approved dismissal from the Attendance Office or the School Nurse/Clinic.If they do not receive the emailed dismissal, students should report to the Attendance Office to verify the dismissal before leaving campus.
- Students who leave campus without a proper dismissal are considered skipping and are subject to disciplinary actions.
- If a student is feeling ill or sick and needs to leave during class, they should inform their teacher and report directly to the Clinic for nursing and dismissalassistance.
Absences
If your student has been absent from school, please contact the attendance clerks at WaltonAttendanceOffice@cobbk12.org or through CTLS within three days of the absence. Check the Walton Student Agenda available on the Walton website for a list of the state-determined criteria for excused absences and policies for make-up work. After three days, the absence is considered unexcused.
