Black History Month

Each February, we come together to celebrate Black History Month, a time dedicated to recognizing the achievements, contributions, and history of Black Americans. This month offers us an important opportunity to reflect on the individuals who have shaped our nation, to honor the triumphs and struggles that are part of our shared story, and to learn from the voices and experiences that continue to inspire progress today.

Black History Month began in 1976 and is used as a way to highlight the powerful influence Black leaders, artists, scientists, educators, activists, and community members have had on society.

At Walton, we believe that learning about Black history is not limited to one month—it is an essential part of understanding American history and building a community rooted in respect, inclusion, and equity. Throughout February, students and staff will be celebrating the month by highlighting HBCU schools in the College Corner outside of the counseling suite, watching student-designed videos for our morning announcements, posters on our first floor featuring pivotal figures in our history and many more ways to celebrate all in our community.

Black History Month invites all of us to listen, to learn, and to honor the stories that help define who we are. We look forward to celebrating together and continuing our commitment to fostering knowledge, appreciation, and unity within our school community.
