Cobb Athletes Shine on National Signing Day

December 3, 2025 – National Signing Day (NSD) has become a major event in college recruiting, with university sports programs showcasing each athlete they have secured to join their teams. This year, December 3 is the opening of the early period for college football signings, and, as is so often the case, Cobb student-athletes are in the spotlight.
Sprayberry High School held an event in the early morning hours before school began to kick off their group of NSD players.

Head Football Coach Dr. Pete Fominaya made it clear that this was a big day.
“This is a summation of 18 years of really hard work for these young men,” he said. “Not only do you have to be great on the field, but you have to be great in the classroom and be a great leader to have an opportunity to sign in December. This is a really special group of young men. They're high-character kids. They do the right thing, and I am proud to have been able to coach them.”
School administrators feel similarly.
“It is a true joy to watch these student athletes grow not just as athletes,” Athletic Director Dr. Nathan Autry said to the crowd in attendance, “but also as people, as they go on to represent Sprayberry in the real world.”
Seven Yellow Jacket seniors sat at the table, one by one, and made announcements regarding where they would be going soon in “the real world”—universities that would be the next steps in their football careers. Lineman Taylen Swinney (Georgia Military College), defensive end Gabe Clarke (University of West Georgia), defensive back Noah Voltaire (Austin Peay University), Cash Barowsky (Berry College), and quarterback Jaden Duckett (The Citadel) kicked off the celebration.
Some of the biggest cheers, however, were for the two Sprayberry stars who officially signed with Division I college teams in Power 5 conferences. Do-everything four-star defensive back Kealan Jones had been committed to the University of Georgia since April. However, a few days before the early signing period arrived, Jones had a change of heart and announced his next playing days would be seen at Georgia Tech. Sprayberry’s other outstanding defensive back, 5-star Jorden Edmonds, has been committed to the University of Alabama since March, and he made it official with his signature this morning.

“I couldn't be prouder of those two and their families,” Coach Fominaya said after the ceremony. “Kealan is just an outstanding human being. He’s a young man who sits in the front of the classroom and wants to be the example for others. If you could clone him and make ten more of him, you'd have an elite program. I know that young man's going to be successful in whatever he takes on, whether it's football, the classroom, or after football. He’s a very, very special young man.
“And Jordan Edmonds is a five-star recruit, but he's a five-star person,” the proud coach continued. “He’s very easy to coach. He is a great team player and a great teammate, and always has time to support people. He’s a silent leader, leads by example, and is a young man who comes to work and does everything that's asked of him.”
Congratulations to these student-athletes on their future collegiate athletic decisions!
