Learning Commons
The Acworth Learning Commons (ALC) is a wonderful space for checking out books, reading, makerspace, lessons and storytime. Below you will find helpful information about our ALC.
Importance of Reading: Research shows that students that read 20 minutes per day do better in all subject areas! Please encourage reading in your home by reading with your child or by setting aside time for reading daily. We want AES students to LOVE READING!
Library: Students are allowed to keep 2 books always checked out. Students can keep books for 2 weeks and even renew books after that time, if they are not finished reading. If books get lost or damaged, it may have an impact on a student checking out new books.
Overdue and Damaged Books: Books are overdue if we have not seen the book after 2 weeks. Parents will get an automated email if their student has overdue books. Although there is no fine for overdue books, we would love them returned on time so others can enjoy them.
If a book gets lost or damaged (by liquid, food, pets, siblings), the book will need to be paid for to be replaced. A book is considered damaged if it can no longer be put into circulation for students.
Mrs. Clay or Mrs. Chapman will send home a note if books are missing or damaged. Cash should be sent to the black box in a school envelope – no change can be given. If the book is found, refunds can be given by requesting it from the bookkeeper, Becky Hohl.
Questions or Information Needed? Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us by email if we can help you or your student in the ALC. Our goal is to be a safe space for every student, to encourage reading and literacy, and to keep an engaging and fun environment for our learners.
