Strong Hearted

Here at Allatoona High, we have the opportunity to be placed in a weight training class, and it has really changed some of our students' lives. Senior Izzy Penge has become the strongest girl in our school right now, and it all started four years ago. Izzy says, “I got put into this class freshman year just because my coaches wanted me to and to be honest, I didn’t really know what I was doing. I had to learn the ropes going along but I soon started to get stronger, and it made me feel really good about myself.” Izzy is at the top of every lift for our female leader board in the weight room. She has a power clean max of 185 pounds, a squat max of 325 pounds, and a bench max of 160 pounds. Wow! She does not have a favorite lift but says, “Power clean is definitely the most fun even though I’m best at squat.” Penge goes on to say that she likes to see how far she can push herself and see how much she is capable of doing. Her advice to beginners is “don't be afraid or embarrassed because everyone starts somewhere” and to “start out slow by learning the proper form because with proper form comes heavy weight.” Izzy’s parents, Diana and Clarence Penge, say, “We are both very proud of her accomplishments and dedication. She works hard when she's passionate about something, and we love seeing her happy.” Izzy may be strong physically, but mentally she is even stronger and deserves recognition for every goal she has reached.
