The Basics

Before you begin your coursework, make sure you understand the basic tools and expectations for learning online at CVA. To succeed in an online course, it is important to understand how the class works, what tools you need, and how to stay organized from the start.

Overview

Start with the Essentials

Use this page to review the basic requirements for CVA students, including the technology you will need, how communication works, how to navigate CTLS, and important student expectations.

Directions: Open each section below to learn about the essentials that will help you stay organized, avoid common problems, and focus on learning.

Quick Guide

What You Need to Know

These are the major areas students should understand before beginning a CVA course.

Computer Requirements

Use a reliable computer, preferably a CCSD-issued student laptop, to complete your coursework.

Email

Check your CCSD student email regularly so you do not miss important messages.

School Supplies

Keep basic supplies nearby so you can take notes, stay organized, and focus while learning online.

Navigation Buttons

Use the red navigation buttons/arrows and complete lessons in order so you do not miss important content.

 Computer Requirements

When taking a course at Cobb Virtual Academy, the most important tool you will use is your computer.

We strongly recommend using your CCSD-issued student laptop for all coursework. These devices are set up to work with the systems and tools you will use in your classes.

If you do not currently have a district laptop, contact your school’s front office to learn how to check one out. You can also find support resources for student devices.

You may be able to use a personal computer, but mobile devices are not recommended for completing coursework. Many assignments, tools, and learning activities do not work well on phones or smaller devices.

Cobb Virtual Academy is not responsible for issues with personal computers, home internet access, or privately installed software.

 Email

As a CVA student, it is important to use your CCSD student email account for all school communication.

Check your CCSD email regularly so you do not miss important messages, announcements, or feedback from your teachers.

Using your school email and CTLS Parent helps keep communication organized and ensures everyone has the information they need to support your success in your online classes.

 School Supplies

Even though you are learning online, having the right supplies can make a big difference in staying organized and focused.

 Navigation Buttons

Throughout your lessons in CTLS, you will see red navigation icons and arrows near the bottom of the screen. These help you move through the lesson.

CTLS navigation icons are red circles with arrows going left and right.

CTLS Navigation Buttons

Use the forward arrow to continue to the next page and the back arrow if you want to review something again. Think of them like turning the pages of a book.

Important: Items in a lesson are designed to be completed in order. Some parts may stay locked or appear grayed out until you finish the page before them.

Important Reminder

Online Learning Still Has Classroom Expectations

CVA students are expected to stay organized, communicate appropriately, complete work on time, follow course directions, and meet the same conduct and academic integrity expectations that apply in school.
