Dress Code Information

R.E.A.L. Gators are expected to dress appropriately each day. Garrett Middle School will continue to implement a casual dress code for the 2026-2027 school year. In other words, parents and students are given a choice regarding what students wear to school; there is no school uniform. However, the Garrett community (parents, faculty, and students) expect all students to learn in an environment that promotes academic excellence and positive character that is free of distractions. Please see below for a list of expectations regarding dress code requirements.

  • Pants and jeans should be worn at the waist. No holes or tears are permitted. Designed rips are only permitted if tights are worn underneath.
  • Shorts cannot be shorter than 3 inches above the knees.
  • The length of any pants, skirts, dresses, or shorts should not be shorter than 3 inches above the knees.
  • Clothing must not be skin-tight or revealing (low cleavage).
  • If leggings/jeggings/skinny jeans are worn, the top or skirt cannot be shorter than 3 inches above the knees. Shirts or blouses must be long enough to cover the waistline even when arms are extended above the head.
  • See-through garments, tank tops, halter tops, strapless tops, or any tops with spaghetti straps are not permitted.
  • Pajamas and pajama pants are prohibited.
  • Headwear - No caps, hats, bandanas, or hoods, are to be worn in the school building during the school day unless there is a special activity during which they are deemed appropriate by the school administration.
  • Shoes - Closed toe shoes must be worn. No slides, sandals or slippers.
  • Clothing or ornamentation that does any of the following is prohibited:
    • a. Displays or advertises substances illegal for minors.
    • b. Displays suggestive phrases, designs, markings, or profanities.
    • c. Advocates, promotes, or suggests illegal activity.

The school reserves the right to revise the above list at any time and to make judgments in individual cases.

Please also refer to CCSD Policies & Administrative Rules section "J" Students for JCDB-R-Student Dress Code.

Repeated violations of the dress code will be addressed using the Student Code of Conduct (JCDA-R). Administrators and teachers shall enforce the dress code, and the principal or designee shall be the final judge as to the appropriateness, neatness and cleanliness of the wearing apparel, or whether or not apparel is disruptive, unsafe, or in violation of the dress code.
