Clubs

The following are activities that students can get involved in. The announcements will provide more details and there will also be signs posted around the building about upcoming meeting times. All clubs are optional. Please see below for club description, mission, and purpose.

Organizations

 ASL Club

Sponsor: Katrina Butler

Mission/Purpose: The ASL Club helps students learn about American Sign Language, explore Deaf culture, and promote inclusion and friendship through fun activities and communication.

Description of activities: Students will learn basic signs, practice fingerspelling, play sign language games, and take part in activities that teach about Deaf culture. We will also practice conversational ASL, watch videos, and create fun projects to share what we’ve learned with others.

Coder School

Sponsor: Jenny Murphy

Mission/Purpose: Computer coding at a basic game level.

Description of activities: Students explore Python and real-world AI through fun, hands-on projects. $ Fee Based Program Sign up at: eastcobb.thecoderschool.com    

Drama Club

Sponsor: Meagan Moody - Drama website

Mission/Purpose: To give students the opportunity to learn the processes of musical theater, plays and theater production.

Description of activities: Students will learn blocking, set design, lighting cues, script reading, musicality and working as a group to create a show or one act plays.

Dungeons & Dragons

Sponsor: John Lamarca

Mission/Purpose: To provide students interested in playing D&D a place to do so.

Description of activities: Weekly role-playing creative adventuring.

Girl Talk

Sponsor: Jenny Murphy

Mission/Purpose: This club helps middle school girls build confidence, leadership skills, and friendships while learning to overcome challenges in a safe, supportive space.

Description of activities: Creation of positive art, group role playing activities, etc.

 Homework Club

Sponsor: Camilla Cohn

Mission/Purpose: To allow time for students to complete work

Description of activities: Tutoring facilitated by High School Students.

 Library Ambassadors

Sponsor: Camilla Cohn & Jenny Starker

Mission/Purpose: To inspire and empower Simpson MS by fostering a love for learning, promoting access to resources, and serving as a bridge between the library and its patrons, ensuring everyone feels welcomed, informed, and supported in their pursuit of knowledge.

Description of activities: Students will help in the Media Center with Library duties.

 Mahjong

Sponsor: Cassie Johnson

Mission/Purpose:  A place for students to come together to learn and play the game of Mahjong. 

Description of activities: We will play Mahjong - teaching those who are new to the game and encouraging those who are experts. Fee of $10 for each participant

Pokémon Club

Sponsor: Jordan Rogers

Mission/Purpose: The Pokémon Club provides students with a fun and welcoming environment to share their love of Pokémon. The club encourages teamwork, strategy, creativity, and sportsmanship through games, discussions, and activities.

Description of activities: Playing the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG). Trading cards responsibly (with supervision and permission). Watching Pokémon episodes or clips. Playing games like, “Who’s That Pokémon?”. Pokémon trivia competitions. Community-building activities designed for fun and inclusion.

 Robotics Club

Sponsor: Austin Smith

Mission/Purpose: To foster a love of STEM and an ability to seek out and solve problems.

Description of activities: Competing in the Georgia BEST robotics competition. $25 Dues to pay for team shirts, application to make sure that parents are aware of what is required

Simpson Eagles Environment Team (SEET)

Sponsor: Shana Forester

Mission/Purpose: Support our custodial staff with recycling and keeping our campus beautiful and litter-free

Description of activities: Weekly recycling and a yearly glass recycling event. See Ms. Forester for an Application Permission Slip

 Spanish Club

Sponsor: Rosario Echevarria & Claudia Martinez

Mission/Purpose: The purpose of the Spanish club is for members to learn about the Spanish language, the rich culture of Spanish speaking countries and their customs, experience the food, music, and art of Spanish Speaking countries.

Description of activities: Spanish club members will participate in activities that foster an understanding of the Spanish language and culture, including, but not limited to field trips, music appreciation, history of dance, art, and even making authentic recipes. Application with $25 fee  (t-shirt included) See Ms. Echevarria, 8th grade for applications.

Speed Cubing Club

Sponsor: Emilie Rose

Mission/Purpose: To provide a place where cubers of all skill levels can learn and share strategies.

Description of activities: Students meet weekly to solve cubes. All ability levels are welcome! Students may bring their own cubes and timers or use the club's cubes.

 Star Wars Club

Sponsor: Chris Whiting

Mission/Purpose: To provide a place for Star Wars fans to interact with one another.

Description of activities: Playing games, discussing plot lines and theories, watching movie clips and trailers.

Tri-M Club

Sponsor:  Dana Tindall & Rob Lowery

Mission/Purpose: The Tri-M Music Honor Society chapter offers students in grades 7 and 8 the chance to perform, places them in leadership positions, and gives them the opportunity to serve the community.

Description of activities: The students serve the Simpson community by playing Happy Birthday for staff members and performing other acts of community service. $25 Dues, plus $15 tshirt if needed

Yearbook Club

Sponsor:  Cassie Johnson & Dana Tindall

Mission/Purpose:  Our mission is to create an aesthetically pleasing yearbook that represents the culture of Simpson Middle

School.

Description of activities: Take photos for the yearbook, choose theme and templates to be used in the yearbook, encourage yearbook sales. Applications are on CTLS.

FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes)

Monitors: Meredith Argo & Emilie Rose

Mission/Purpose: FCA is a non-denominational Christian sports ministry. Students are encouraged to embody the core values of Integrity, Serving, Teamwork, and Excellence in all aspects of their lives.

Description of activities: Each meeting features engaging games that build community & connection and an inspiring devotional led by student volunteers or invited speakers.M
