South Cobb Celebrates 27 Magnet Graduates

May 23, 2025—In addition to walking with the rest of their classmates in the South Cobb Class of 2025 commencement tomorrow evening, the 2025 Academy of Research and Medical Sciences graduates had a smaller ceremony last weekend in the school's Performing Arts Center. The 27 graduates were honored and awarded for their outstanding achievements in the magnet program.
Principal Tommy Perry recognized the Class of 2025 Valedictorian and Salutatorian—both Magnet students—for their impressive GPAs and dedication to the program. Nkiru Okaro finished her high school career with a 4.594 GPA and will attend the University of Georgia in the fall. Mary Yeboah finished with a 4.568 GPA and will attend Emory.
Reminding the graduates of what lies ahead, guest speaker Mike Logan told the graduates to "do hard things." "Doing hard things means learning to live your life in the midst of resistance," he said. "It builds grit, character, stamina, and resilience. Class of 2025, my charge to you today is simple: Do whatever that hard thing is for you today. Apply for that internship, be the first one to class every day, build that business, have that tough conversation, say no to that negative influence, resolve that conflict, learn to live on a budget, schedule that workout. Show up, be present, and be bold."
The Magnet Parents Association awarded scholarships to Paul Otunga and Garrett Hill.
As the graduates were called up one at a time, parents and family members cheered and clapped to let their graduate know that they would be there to continue supporting them in their quest to "do hard things." The 27 graduates are continuing their educations at 14 different colleges, including Georgia Institute of Technology, Northwestern, Piedmont, Oglethorpe, and William and Mary.
Congratulations to the Academy of Research and Medical Sciences at South Cobb Class of 2025! We wish you well and know that you will show up and be bold as you continue what you started in Cobb!
