8th Grade Families: Jackets Take Flight: 8th Grade Career Exploration Day Jan. 28 - Volunteers Needed!

The Daniell Middle School counseling department is excited to bring career exploration and financial literacy to students in 8th grade at Daniell on Jan. 28, 2026.
Students will experience a bit of “reality” in a 50-minute personal finance and lifestyle simulation. Prior to our event students calculate their GPA, choose a career, and are given an estimated monthly salary for their chosen career. Then, on January 28th, they imagine their life as a 28-year-old with a career and a salary and they participate in a real-life simulation. In this simulation they go to different booths and make decisions about housing, transportation, insurance, entertainment, self-care, groceries, etc. all based on their monthly income.
This event depends upon community volunteers for shifts to facilitate the booths that students must complete. A 10-to-15-minute training for this event is provided before each session. As a Volunteer, you will work directly with the students, educating them on career and life choices as it pertains to the booth you are hosting. Please sign up for as many sessions as you are able to!
Please email lauren.mcafee@cobbk12.org (8th grade counselor) with any questions.
Thank you for your support!
Get ready for Hoops for Heart Challenge, kicking off on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. Please register today by clicking here, or using the QR code below:

The Hoops for Heart event will have different basketball activities and challenges for participants. If your child would like to participate, we ask them to donate $20 to the American Heart Association. All proceeds will go to the American Heart Association to raise awareness for things like congenital heart defects, nutrition security, CPR training, mental well-being, and more as they work to end heart disease and stroke. Through your child's participation and support, you’re not only helping hearts in our community but also helping those who need it most. Your donation will fund groundbreaking research and programs that keep hearts beating and help people have longer, healthier lives.
All money raised goes to the American Heart Association. Your student should see Coach Lee or Coach Bodiford with questions.
Thank you for keeping hearts everywhere beating strong!
Pop Top Contest: Each February we have a Pop top contest! Please collect the pop tops from soda cans and turn them into your HR teacher. All pop tops are donated to the Ronald McDonald House where they recycle them for money to support the families with sick children who are staying there. Our contest runs the through the month of February, and the winning HR in each grade wins a donut breakfast.
We have another book fair coming! Our School Book Fair will be at Daniell Feb 2-6.
Need for wood in art: Ms. Hood is planning a project and needs untreated lumber planks in 1"x4" or 2"x4". If the lumber is treated, it is not usable for this project. She needs it by early March. Contact her if you have any questions at Jessica.hood@cobbk12.org Thanks for your donations to our school!
Rising 6th Grade Night: If you know of any families with rising 6th graders, please send them the attached flyer with information about our upcoming parent night, Thursday, Feb. 5 at 6 pm in the Daniell theater.
