Student Placement 2022-2023

Dear East Side Parents,

As we began to plan and prepare for the 22-23 school year, class placement is a task that is in the forefront of everyone’s minds. This is an extensive project that requires much time and energy to ensure that the best possible class is formed for each child according to their needs. In putting together our class lists we consider many factors. Some of those include boy/girl ratio, academic ability, services the child receives, behavioral characteristics, learning styles, etc. Throughout the placement process, we request input from classroom teachers, counselors, special education teachers, ESOL teachers, EIP teachers, specialist teachers, and all East Side Staff. Our GOAL is to ensure that each child is in a balanced classroom with a teacher who best fits each student’s learning profile and needs.

One very important piece of information at East Side that is used to form classes is parent input. As we work through the placement process, I welcome and encourage parent input through the use of an Input form. This year, East Side is encouraging all parents to complete an Electronic Parent Input Form per child for rising Kindergarten- rising 5th grade students, if desired. Rising 6th grade students do not need a form as placement will be handled by their middle school. This form is completely OPTIONAL and please know that the utmost care will be used to select your child’s teacher with or without a parent input form. This form is available online today and will be closed at 3pm on Tuesday, April 12th

Here is some information & directions for you to follow as you complete the parent input placement form:

  • This year, the form is only available electronically. Please click the link to access the form: Parent Input Placement Form. This link can also be found on East Side’s website www.cobbk12.org/eastside
  • It is crucial that the information entered in the form is accurate ESPECIALLY the grade level entered for the 22-23 School year. Forms are only applicable for rising K-5th grade students.
  • It is equally as important that we have only ONE form completed per child and we are asking that only the enrolling adult complete the form. Multiple forms for the same child will not be accepted and will be deleted, so please take time and care in completing your form to ensure you have listed all information that you would like to be present.
  • The electronic form will close for current ES students at 3pm on Tuesday, April 12th- this is a firm deadline and late submissions will not be accepted.
  • Forms are completely optional & confidential
  • A few policies in place regarding the form are:
  1. No request for a specific teacher by name will be accepted. You are welcomed to describe the type of learning environment or teacher personality that you feel works best for your child, but NO placement forms listing specific teacher’s names will be reviewed.
  2. No requests to have another child placed in the same class as your child (exception of twins) will be accepted. We are not able to honor requests of friends being placed in the same classrooms due to many various factors.
  3. You MAY list the name of ONE student that you would like to have separated from your child, if desired. Please note that this request is not guaranteed due to services required, etc.

Additionally, please note that placement conferences (in person or via phone/email) will not be held by administration NOR by the current homeroom teacher, counselor, etc. We are also not allowed to accept email communication, verbal communication, etc. in the place of a placement form being completed.

Please understand that once classes are posted, all rosters are FINAL. We will only move a student if it is a mistake that we have made in the placement process or an error on the school’s part.

If your child is NOT returning to East Side for the 22-23 school year, then we ask that you let us know this information by completing this form: Students not returning to ES for 22-23 school year. Please note that this form does not need to be completed for our graduating 5th grade students.

We welcome your input about your child as we begin the placement process and I encourage you to complete a placement form. Once again, these forms are optional and not required, but are appreciated. Parents will learn of class placements by Eagle Day 2022. More information to come regarding Eagle Day closer to the end of this year.

Thank you for assisting our team as we work to provide the best possible learning environment for each and every student!

Sincerely,

Maria Clark
