Coaches from McEachern and North Cobb Win COM Award

The Cobb Schools’ Athletic Department has selected the latest Coach of the Month (COM) winners. The COM award highlights a female and a male coach doing exceptional work in the District.
In conjunction with the Atlanta Braves and Good Game Atlanta, the winners receive a complimentary one-night stay at Aloft Atlanta at the Battery and dinner from Good Game Atlanta.
“This is a small token of our appreciation for their efforts both on and off the court,” said Cobb’s Director of Athletics, Don Baker. “Coaches teach a full day, and their days are only half-over when the bell rings at 3:30. They continue to work with our student-athletes for hours each week, often at the expense of their own spouses and children. We believe we have the best coaches in the state and want to celebrate them as much as possible!”
The September 2023 winners are head coaches from McEachern and North Cobb. Tekeshia Hill coaches volleyball for the Indians, and Michael Turchan coaches softball for the Warriors.
Tekeshia Hill, McEachern, Volleyball
Coach Hill is in her eighth year in Cobb and works extremely hard with the Indian volleyball team. She is a true representation of McEachern Pride and was the school’s Teacher of the Year in 2021.
In addition to teaching social studies and coaching volleyball, Coach Hill also coaches the dance squad and serves as the sponsor for the male club, KINGS. She is intimately involved in every area of the school and serves on the Principal’s Advisory Council. She helps plan and host various events at the school, including pep rallies, the Homecoming Parade, the Block Party, and the Bonfire.
Michael Turchan, North Cobb, Softball
The Warriors Fastpitch team compiled an impressive 26-0 Record through the regular season and gave North Cobb its first-ever region title in the sport. An 18-year coaching veteran, Coach Turchan became head coach of the Warrior Softball team four years ago and has been leading them to another level. He also serves as the school’s Department Chair for Physical Education.
“He is a leader in our building,” said Athletic Director Matt Williams. “He is very loyal and hard-working. He has been here his whole career and is invested in this school and the community. He has built relationships that contribute to the success of North Cobb students.”
Congratulations, Coaches Hill and Turchan! Well done both on the court and field and in the classroom. You are both very deserving of this honor, and your student-athletes have benefitted greatly thanks to your dedication and perseverance!
