Friday At Five (Daniell Weekly News And Upcoming Events)

Friday at Five
August 15, 2025
Thank you to those who were able to volunteer during the duty-free lunch this week. The teachers enjoyed it and appreciate your help in supervising the students. We will have one of these a quarter this year. Watch this newsletter for more volunteer opportunities.
Mark your calendars: Monday, August 18 is the first Digital Learning Day of the school year. Students do not report to school, but they will have asynchronous assignments to complete at home via CTLS. Other Digital Learning Days this school year are Oct. 13 and March 2.
Student Schedules: We have a need to balance some of our classes now that our registrations have slowed down. Some of your students could receive a new schedule of classes next week due to this balancing. The teachers stayed the same; they just may see them in a different period from now on. All class levels (advanced content, co-taught, or small group) remained the same, but it could be a different time of the day. Thanks for your understanding.
Does your student have allergies, asthma, or another medical need? If so, please reach out to Nurse Cristy so she is aware and can help you complete the correct forms so that we can house emergency medications at school. Cristina.mcever@cobbk12.org Please reach out to her just to touch base even if you completed the student clinic card.
Students were told about the upcoming Color Battle today. This is our only school-wide yearly fundraiser. Today, students were provided their own code to login to the APEX system so they can share the donation page with others. Students must raise $30 to participate. The Color Battle is Friday, August 29. We have an opportunity for parents to volunteer during the Color Battle. See the sign-up genius below to volunteer.

Volunteer times will be approximately from 2:30 pm – 4:15 pm on August 29. The sign up genius describes the different stations we need. Thank you for your help! Keep reading for more info about the Color Battle:
Thank you for your support of Daniell Middle school and the investments you make in your children’s lives. We’re so excited to introduce you to this year’s major fundraising initiative led by our PTSA: the Daniel Middle School PTSA Color Battle 2025 that will start Friday, August 15th and end on Friday, August 29th with the Color Battle Event.
Students will then be challenged to get donations over 2 weeks from family and friends to help our school. Funds raised will be used towards Teacher & Students Incentives and Rewards. We’ll end the 2-week fundraiser with a celebratory Color Battle event for students who participate in the fundraiser (think of field games, lots of color powder, participant t-shirts, loud music, high energy, and FUN!).
All students can participate in the activities throughout the two weeks. To be a part of the Color Battle, a minimum of $30 raised for the school is needed.
You can help make our Color Battle Fundraiser successful by connecting your student to potential donors (family/friends) to acquire donations. Every student will receive a unique Access Code that will grant access to their own donation page. The more the word gets out, the more donations we will likely be able to gather for our school.
During the two weeks of the fundraiser, students will learn how to navigate their donation page so they can input phone numbers and emails of people they know. Daily challenges will be given (classroom and individual) to reward students that participate in the process of sharing the school’s donation page with the world. Any information collected is encrypted and protected by law, being used for the sole purpose of promoting this amazing initiative. Being a student-led fundraiser, this will also be a great opportunity to teach the students the concept of accountability: by actively helping out, they will be able to enjoy the benefits of the funds gathered for their own school.
Thank you again for your continued support!
Disclaimer/Release of Liability: The Color Battle activities will involve running and other forms of exercise that may be physically exerting. Students will also be dusted with color powder. If your child has preexisting conditions such as heart conditions, allergies, asthma, immune disorders, susceptibility to bleeding or broken bones, or other illnesses or conditions that require limited physical exertion, please consult with your doctor before allowing your child to participate. If parents or guardians allow their student to participate, you are representing and warranting that your child is healthy enough to participate safely in the activities and you agree to hold Apex and the School harmless for any possible accident or injury. You are also agreeing that you are assuming all responsibility for your child’s clothing and shoes during the activity.
Color Powder: The color powder used during the Color Battle is non-toxic and biodegradable. All materials are FD&C grade, made from cornstarch and food-safe coloring. Color powder may stain clothing. If your child is participating, please have them wear old shoes and bottoms that are ok if they get stained and bring a change of clothing for after the event.
Weekend Color Battle Challenges:
1. Any student who raises $30 this weekend will be provided an extra color packet for the color battle!
2. Any student who has 20 invites (or shares the color battle info) will receive 20 raffle tickets for a chance to win cool prizes!
3. The top student in the school with the most quality invites (meaning they have shared the info with real people-not fake emails- will receive a $50 gift card Tuesday!
Encourage your student to invite others to donate!!

The Cognia Student, Parent, and Staff Surveys are designed to collect data on student academic learning and wellness during the current school year. Participation in each survey is anonymous and voluntary, and participation is highly encouraged. The survey results will provide the Cognia Accrediting Agency, Cobb County School District, and local schools with data regarding student learning environment, staff input, and parent feedback to support continuous learning. If you prefer that your student opt out of the survey, please email Nicholas.Waltz@cobbk12.org by Friday, August 22. The parent link is below and is also posted on our website. Please help us reach our participation goal by taking the survey by Friday, October 17. Thank you for your participation!

Parents, I want to introduce you to the Daniell Wall of Honor in case you are not familiar with it.
This is a wall in our school that we are very proud of! Beginning in 2012-2013, every student who has earned all A’s in 6th – 8th grades has placed their handprint and signature on the wall! Last May, we were honored to add 18 handprints to the wall! We encourage you to work with your students, communicate with teachers, and support the school so your child’s handprint can be part of the Wall of Honor at Daniell!
As you know, we expect our students to SWARM while at school. SWARM stands for:
Show Positive Leadership
Work Hard
Accept Accountability
Respect Others
Make Good Choices
We are kicking off next week as an official SWARM week with a different dress up day each day of the week. Many parents ask for dress up days in advance so they can help their child coordinate their outfits. Here are the upcoming dress up days:
We hope your student has fun with it!

Hey 6th, 7th, and 8th Graders!
Get ready for an exciting opportunity to be a part of something big! Coach Kelvin Jimenez, Rafael Almonte and the Sprayberry Varsity Baseball Staff are thrilled to announce the creation of a brand-new middle school baseball team this fall! This team will be an essential feeder for the Sprayberry High School Baseball Program, giving you the opportunity to make a strong impression and start building team chemistry with players and high school staff.
Do not worry—being on this team will not interfere with any current or future Travel Baseball/Rec Baseball commitments. You will be competing against other middle schools across Paulding, Cherokee, and Fulton Counties.
Want to be part of this exciting journey? We are looking to have a few workouts during the last week of August and beginning of September. We are aiming to have our official tryouts in September.
