Attendance Resource and Tardy/Early Checkout Protocol
Attendance is crucial to success. Regular and punctual attendance in school is essential to a student’s success and parents and family members are key players in reinforcing the habits of good attendance and punctuality. It is extremely important that children begin good attendance habits early in life. Here are just a few of the reasons why your child needs to be here each day:
- Students need to be in class to learn. Students who miss a day of school suffer because that day of instruction cannot be retrieved. Lessons usually involve hands-on and teacher facilitated activities that can’t be duplicated outside of class.
- The teaching/learning process builds on lessons previously taught.
- Students develop the habits of good attendance and punctuality for future careers.
Per Georgia State Compulsory Attendance Law and CCSD policy, every child who misses 7 unexcused days of school will be referred for school social work intervention. The mission of school social work is to help alleviate any barriers that may deter a child from attending school on a regular basis and to ensure academic success of each student.
Please provide medical documentation to excuse absences within 3 days of your child’s return to school and plan vacations during scheduled breaks. Encourage timely/daily attendance and utilize bus transportation for consistent structure.
