Clubs

Be-Jeweled Club: Members will learn how to make jewelry using stretchy string, clay and wire that they can keep, share or give as gifts. Members can also teach others to make jewelry while making new friends. Sponsor: Angela Price

Black History Club: The purpose of the Garrett MS Black History Club is to increase students’ knowledge about American history, prepare students to participate in competitions (quiz bowl), increase motivation, and develop teamwork and leadership skills. SponsorsJohn Nwosu, Lauren Alexander, and Bernadine Herring-Parrish 

Chess Club: Interested students can relax and play chess with friends while learning about the rules and features of the game. Sponsor: Rebecca Fant

Crochet Club: Students and teachers learn the craft of crocheting, so they can make crafts for family and friends. Sponsor: Gwen Tatum

Gardening Club: To learn about horticulture and beautify portions of the school. Sponsor: Rebecca Fant

Girls on the Run: To empower girls to be strong and bold. Sponsor: Katherine Chopin

Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl: Students read books to compete against other middle schools in Cobb County for a chance to go to the State and National Bowl. Sponsors: Gwendolyn Tatum, Rachel Osborn and  John Kendall

National Junior Art Honor Society: The National Junior Art Honor Society is designed specifically for middle school students for the purpose of inspiring and recognizing those students who have shown outstanding ability and scholarship in art. The NJAHS strives to aid members in working toward the attainment of the highest standards in art areas, and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community. Sponsors: Lisa Wright and Jennipher Hopper

National Junior Beta Club: To promote the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students. Sponsor: Denise Hood

National Junior Honor Society: To Recognize outstanding academic achievement for students in the middle school level. Sponsor: Michelle Burns

P.P.D. (Pretty Is as Pretty Does): Mission: We aim to promote self-love amongst young women by way of community service, education, and sisterhood. Vision: To assist young women in cultivating a positive self-image. Sponsors: Perri Lennon and Lauren Alexander 

Speech and Debate: Mission: We believe communication skills are essential for members to be honorable leaders in society. We support and inspire, the Honor Society members on this team to use their communication skills to effectively utilize speech and debate for competition in various levels. Vision: We will prepare and develop students for speech, debate, effective communication, and future careers. Sponsors: Sheyna Hairston, Carlethia Wharton, Kenya Whiteside

Student Ambassadors: The mission and purpose of the Student Ambassadors is to empower our students to be leaders by helping our new enrollees, assisting with new student orientation, peer tutoring and student advisory council. Sponsors: Lauren Alexander, John Nwosu, Denise Hood

Young Men of Garrett (YMG): To provide service and mentorship for 7th/8th grade boys that may need support with behavior and academics. Sponsor: Horace Head

Organizations

FCA - Since 1954, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has been challenging coaches and athletes on the professional, college, high school, junior high and youth levels to use the powerful medium of athletics to impact the world for Jesus Christ. FCA is the largest Christian sports organization in America. Sponsor: James Shook
