After years of deep playoff runs by the boys and girls basketball programs, the Kell High School Basketball Programs are CHAMPIONS! For Jermaine Sellars, this was something he had been working toward for years. He also not only praised his athletes for their grit and determination but he also shared his appreciation for the fans. “Our teams are the community! We didn’t get this far without their support. The energy they brought to our games helped us to rise above the competition, especially in the finals.”  For the coach Kandra Bailey, the timing could not have been better. “All of the stars lined up and the girls were on a mission. We have been chasing a ring and this year was our year!” Both teams earned their state titles on March 9 in Macon.

     While a school winning two basketball championships in the same year is not unheard of, for Cobb County Schools, this was a first. Athletic Director Jeff Burch aims to have this as an event where the teams and we celebrate the entire Longhorn Nation. Burch explained, “our athletes are a huge part of our school community and with an achievement this large, we are so happy to give them the spotlight and recognition again!” To celebrate this historic event, Kell High School is inviting the WHOLE community to celebrate with us! All are invited to come to Kell at 6:00 pm for the Celebration of Champions as the teams parade from the stadium to the gym. The gym program will feature words from Principal Peter Giles, Athletic Director Jeff Burch, Coaches Kandra Bailey & Jermaine Sellers, and Community Members. Additionally, highlights from the season will be shown. Dr. Giles sees this as an opportunity to craft yet another community celebration and welcome in our families and friends. He explained, “this event is not only a celebration of the teams but the Kell Community. We pride ourselves on being a place where ALL of our community is welcome to create lasting memories.”
