Reducing Distractions

Study Tips

Being distracted often keeps adults from being able to complete tasks in a timely manner. If an adult has a hard time staying focused, imagine how hard it can be for a kid. This is why it is important for the parenting adult to help his/her student create a place to study at home that helps limit possible distractions. Below are two tips to help you do this.

Tip #1

To help reduce distractions while your child is at home studying, consider limiting the use of the devices until the schoolwork is done. Adjust the screen-time settings on your student’s smart devices or even adjust the times that particular apps may be accessed. It is always a great idea when an adult can drop in and check on their student regardless of when they are using technology.

Tip #2

Not only can the temptation to access social media sites or surf the web distract students, but also their surrounding environment can, too. Just imagine being a child yourself and being in your room with all your favorite things surrounding you. All those favorite things around you can make it harder to focus. As we have talked about earlier, it is important to set up a quiet, clutter-free workspace that is comfortable for your child. TV's and windows that provide views of friends outside playing or practicing sports may also distract a student. Be mindful of where your student is studying and work to keep that area free from distractions.
