Tiles: messages from the original Mavericks

More than a thousand hand-decorated tiles line the halls of our school's sixth, seventh, and eighth wings. The tiles were created at the end of McClure's first year. The assignment for those who started McClure was to leave a legacy of positive messages for all who followed them.
Faculty, staff, and students filled the art room and the cafeteria, which had been prepared for the massive undertaking, and the painting began. Many of the original artists can show you exactly where their tile is hanging, yet as you look at the tiles, you may notice that none of them are signed. That was an intentional choice; the emphasis was on the message, not necessarily the artist. While names are not on the tiles, they are displayed with tiles created by classmates. Sixth graders painted the tiles in the sixth-grade wing, seventh graders in their wing, and eighth graders in the eighth-grade wing. Our initial faculty’s tiles line the walls in the Susan Wing Atrium.
Imagine yourself creating a tile with your encouraging words for the future, what would it say? Our first students and staff left part of their legacy on the tiles. Each succeeding maverick has added to that legacy. What's yours?
