Harrison Receives $50K Grant to Replace Practice Field Turf

June 17, 2025—Harrison High School recently received a grant from Sprinturf to replace the turf on the school's practice field. This multi-use space is used by many students and groups for activities as diverse as athletics, band, instructional, summer camps, workouts, feeder programs practices, and other community events. In fact, Harrison's nearly constant use of the field is part of what convinced the executives at Sprinturf to select them as winners of the grant.
"This grant was a blessing to us and our school as it heavily assisted in being able to accomplish replacing a space that is used by so many classes and programs at our school," said Harrison Athletic Director Wes Ellis.
The $50,000 LEAP Grant will greatly assist with this large replacement job. The project is scheduled to break ground on June 30th and anticipates a completion date in mid to late July.
Having the practice field ready for the first week of school in August will allow PE classes to use the field, as well as the Football teams (9th, JV, and Varsity) and Flag Football in the fall, and Lacrosse, Soccer, and Baseball in the spring. The football and lacrosse feeder programs also regularly use the field.
Sprinturf was impressed with how much the field is used, and chose Harrison's proposal based on this, as well as how it's being used to serve such a wide field of activities for the school and the surrounding community.
