South Cobb Student Wins Grand Prize at Statewide Film Competition

August 22, 2025—South Cobb High School student Anabella Alvarado was recently awarded 1st Place in the 2025 Youth Across America Hope Film Competition, earning a $1000 grand prize shared between her and her teacher. Her winning short film, "My Brother," tells a heartfelt story of familial separation and the hope of reconnection after adoption.
The competition, hosted by the nonprofit Hope Givers, encourages young people across the country to tell stories centered around hope, resilience, and equity. Hope Givers' mission is to "save lives through arts, science, and advocacy," making student storytelling a powerful tool for social change and healing. Anabella's deeply personal film captured that vision with clarity and emotion.
The event featured screenings of finalist and honorable mention films, with Anabella's project standing out among hundreds of entries. The annual film challenge, now in its fourth year, is open to middle and high school students guided by mentors from their school communities. The program aligns with Hope Givers' core values of Humanity, Opportunity, Prevention, and Equity.
Ms. Davis had several other students receive recognition at the event. Joseph Hernandez, Miguel, and Erick were named semi-finalists for their film "Giving Hope with Joe," earning them a field trip to Trilith Studios, one of Georgia's premier production campuses.
Congratulations to Anabella for being recognized for her filmmaking skills and storytelling! Well done, South Cobb Video and Film students!
